On December 16, in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a conference to meet with ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the Central Highlands in 2024.
Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy, Member of the Presidium, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee chaired the Conference.
Attending the event were Mr. Y Vinh Tor, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee; Ms. Tran Thi Hoa Ry, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Ethnic Council; leaders of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization, the National Assembly Ethnic Council, the Ethnic Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; the Standing Committee of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee; leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of the provinces in the region, and 150 delegates who are prestigious people representing ethnic minorities from the provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong.
The Central Highlands includes 5 provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong with a natural area of about 54.5 thousand km2, accounting for 1/6 of the country's area; the 3rd largest of the 6 socio-economic regions. The Central Highlands is considered the "western fence of the Fatherland", with a particularly important strategic role and position in terms of economy, politics, culture, society, environment, national defense, security and foreign affairs of the whole country, a region rich in potential, advantages in natural conditions, natural resources in development, playing a central role in East-West connection; a strategic reserve for the country's sustainable development.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Lien, member of the Presidium, Head of the Committee for Democracy, Supervision and Social Criticism of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front emphasized: "This conference is an opportunity for delegates to express their thoughts, aspirations, recommendations and proposals on the enjoyment of ethnic programs and policies in the locality; share good practices and valuable experiences in ethnic work, thereby further promoting the achieved results".
At the Conference, delegate Dinh Van Tuyen, a prestigious person of Gia Lai province, proposed: The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front should pay attention to arranging monthly allowances for prestigious people to encourage and support them to overcome difficulties and increasingly better fulfill their tasks.
Currently, health insurance is only provided to poor households, while households living in extremely difficult areas, ethnic minorities in regions I and II are not provided, while ethnic minorities still in difficulty do not have the conditions to buy insurance for medical examination and treatment. Therefore, it is proposed that the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front pay attention to supporting the issuance of health insurance cards to people to reduce difficulties when they are sick.
Delegate Thi Roi, representing 21 ethnic minority groups in Dak Song district, Dak Nong province, proposed: it is necessary to preserve, conserve and promote the cultural identity of ethnic minorities; It is necessary to commend and reward typical and advanced individuals and collectives in preserving and promoting the national cultural identity; It is necessary to review those with exemplary spirit in cultural activities, and propose that all levels recognize outstanding artisans...
Mr. La Van Manh, a delegate from Kon Tum province, suggested: each person with prestige needs to coordinate with the Front officials at all levels to proactively grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people, grasp the developments in the area to avoid unexpected incidents; There should be appropriate policies to improve the educational level of ethnic minorities so that propaganda and mobilization of people can be more effective.
Many delegates also recommended that ministries and branches at the central level need to accelerate the implementation of Resolution 23 of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region until 2030, with a vision to 2045; Decision No. 104 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Project on socio-economic development associated with security and defense protection in the Central Highlands region; the National Target Program (CT) on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, integrated with other programs and policies in the area such as: National Target Program on sustainable poverty reduction and National Target Program on new rural construction, associated with restructuring the agricultural sector, adapting to climate change and protecting the environment sustainably, considering this as one of the breakthrough solutions for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the Central Highlands region in general...
Concluding the Conference, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Hoang Cong Thuy affirmed: Our Party and State have always consistently advocated equality, solidarity, respect, and mutual assistance for development among ethnic groups. Up to this point, the Party and State's policies and guidelines have been gradually improved, covering all aspects of the lives of ethnic minorities. In particular, with the noble mission of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in gathering, building, and promoting the strength of the "Great National Unity" bloc; practicing democracy; strengthening social consensus; listening to and synthesizing the opinions of voters and people, especially ethnic minorities, to reflect to the Party and State.
“On behalf of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, I fully acknowledge the opinions, recommendations and proposals of the delegates and will direct the specialized committees to synthesize and prepare reports to send to the competent authorities for consideration and resolution in the coming time, promptly responding to the requests of the ethnic people in the Central Highlands,” Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy affirmed.
