(NLDO)- According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, the spirit of the 10th grade exam from 2025 will include 2 subjects: literature and math, the third subject will be chosen by the departments.
On the sidelines of the Conference on summarizing the organization of the high school graduation exam for the period 2020-2024 and preparing for the high school graduation exam from 2025, on October 31, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the 10th grade exam plan is currently soliciting opinions. The spirit of the 10th grade exam from 2025 will include 2 subjects: literature and math, the 3rd subject will be selected by the departments from the remaining subjects, assessed by scores. The selection of the 3rd subject is based on the principle of annual changes to avoid biased learning, rote learning, so that students have enough capacity and qualities to take the high school entrance exam or switch to vocational training. If the 3rd subject is fixed for the 10th grade exam as before, in schools with good principal management, the situation of biased learning will not occur.
In reality, many localities want to keep the 3 subjects of the 10th grade exam stable: math, literature and English. Regarding this issue, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training said that it could easily lead to consequences because many schools from the beginning of the school year only focus on 3 subjects of the 10th grade exam, while other subjects are not interested even though knowledge of geography, history and science is very necessary for students. Therefore, changing the exam subjects will help students have to study the same subjects except for 2 basic science subjects.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong, the goal of the 2018 General Education Program is to develop students' qualities and abilities. Developing students' qualities and abilities is not only focused on the three subjects of literature, math, and English, but also demonstrated in other subjects. However, in the exam process, only 3 subjects are selected, so students are required to study all subjects equally to be able to do well on the exam.
Mr. Thuong shared that many people think that the drawing of lots for the 10th grade exam is a matter of luck and can be repeated. Therefore, changing the third subject every year will avoid the above situation.
In response to the opinion that to avoid the situation of lopsided learning and rote learning, it is necessary to conduct inspections and examinations by management agencies, instead of 10th grade exam subjects, Mr. Thuong stated that during the inspection and examination process of the Ministry of Education and Training and many other agencies, many signs and violations were discovered, and this phenomenon was even corrected, however the problem has not been completely resolved.
"The 10th grade exam has a huge impact on society, so no solution can fully satisfy it. Therefore, we choose the optimal solution and consider it the most suitable and appropriate to ensure the factors of education and capacity for special students according to the 2018 General Education Program. Through science and practice, to form students' capacity and quality, it must be based on many subjects," said Mr. Thuong.
