According to the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in 2022, there will be 3 storms affecting the province's weather, 21 cold spells... The total damage caused by natural disasters in 2022 in the province is more than 1,400 billion VND.
In the first 6 months of 2023, Thua Thien Hue was affected by 8 cold spells of medium to strong intensity, 2 heavy rains, 3 thunderstorms, lightning and 7 heat waves, causing damage to people's houses and boats.
Based on the Government's funding to support overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in the first 10 months of 2022 with a budget of 150 billion VND, the Provincial People's Committee has approved a plan to allocate funds to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
Specifically, 30 billion VND has been allocated for targeted supplement to local budgets to support people's livelihoods, agricultural production, urgent repair of damaged essential infrastructure, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; 120 billion VND has been allocated to implement important works and projects to overcome the consequences of natural disasters such as urgent handling of coastal erosion through Thuan An - Tu Hien, coastal erosion in Phu Thuan commune, Phu Vang district, and repair of damaged works.
Currently, the projects are being implemented and will disburse all allocated capital in 2023. In addition, the Provincial People's Committee has allocated 20 billion VND from the local budget to support overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in 2022.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh said that as a locality that regularly suffers from the impacts of natural disasters and climate change, the province always pays special attention to disaster prevention and response work to minimize human and property damage. Thua Thien Hue province is in the top group in disaster prevention and response work according to the Disaster Prevention and Response Index.
To create conditions for the province to have funding to overcome the consequences and restore livelihoods, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh proposed that the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and ministries and branches consider supporting the province with projects to urgently handle coastal erosion in a critical section in Phu Hai - Phu Dien commune, Phu Vang district with a length of 1.9 km, costing about 190 billion VND; support urgent handling of coastal erosion in critical sections of about 2.8 km with a cost of about 200 billion VND; support the construction of embankments to prevent riverbank erosion and dredging of waterways in the downstream of Huong River, Bo River, Truoi River, costing about 300 billion VND.
In addition, support the project to upgrade the dyke system and sluices on the dyke along Tam Giang - Cau Hai Lagoon to increase flood drainage capacity, prevent waterlogging, and ensure agricultural production, with a budget of about 500 billion VND. Upgrade to ensure safety for 12 reservoirs with a budget of 220 billion VND and upgrade and repair provincial roads, inter-commune and inter-village roads with a budget of 100 billion VND.
Concluding the meeting, Director of the Department of Agricultural Economics - Ministry of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Doan requested the province to focus on ensuring plans related to reservoir operations and safety plans for communications. Pay attention to forecasting and warning when natural disasters occur, support and enhance training and drills for search and rescue forces, and better implement the "4 on-site" work;
In addition, continue to effectively implement response plans corresponding to disaster risk levels; promote communication, dissemination of laws, raise public awareness of PCTT and implement the Project "Raising public awareness and community-based disaster risk management, by 2030".
Mr. Nguyen Van Doan asked the members of the working group to absorb the opinions and proposals of the province and report to the National Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control to have timely and effective solutions.
On this occasion, the Central Inspection Team on Disaster Prevention and Control inspected and surveyed the field at Thuan An fishing port and the Phu Thuan anti-erosion embankment project area.
