The Nghe An Departmentof Education and Training is seeking comments on a draft resolution on support policies for students at ethnic minority boarding schools and schools that provide centralized meals and accommodation for boarding students in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the province.
This Resolution stipulates policies to support students studying at boarding schools for ethnic minorities and general schools that organize meals and accommodation for boarding students in ethnic minority and mountainous areas of 53 schools in 6 districts of Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong and Ky Son.

This draft specifies the students eligible for support.
According to the draft, at each level of education, students will be provided with one-time in-kind support, including: blankets, mosquito nets and other personal items at a cost of VND864,000/student; 2 sets of uniforms and school supplies (notebooks, paper, pens and other school supplies) at a cost of VND864,000/student/school year.
In addition, 53 schools within the scope of the resolution will be supported with funding to organize meals and accommodation for boarding students for a maximum of 6 periods/class/week, no more than 5 weeks/school year, with a support level of 180,000 VND/period; and 114,000 VND/student/year for funding to purchase additional supplies and repair dining and kitchen utensils.
Every year, the school is supported with 200,000 VND/student/school year to buy an additional 10% of the total number of textbooks in the school library; supported with funding for making student cards and personal badges, enrollment at the beginning of the school year, and final exams at a rate of 144,000 VND/student/school year.

At the same time, schools are supported with electricity and water for the study and living of boarding students at the rate of 15KW of electricity/month/student and 3m3 of water/month/student according to local regulations and for 9 months/school year.
The support aims to create conditions for students to have the opportunity to go to school, reduce economic pressure on students' families, reduce the situation of students dropping out of school due to family economic difficulties, and increase the rate of student mobilization in areas with especially difficult socio-economic conditions.
In addition, supporting students also contributes to the development of general education equally among regions, firmly maintaining and improving the results of universal primary education and universal secondary education.
According to the report of the Nghe An education sector, currently, the ethnic minority and mountainous areas have 655 schools with 9,836 classes and 302,962 students. Of which, the system of ethnic boarding schools and boarding schools is 143 schools with 2,434 classes and 75,229 students.
Every year, this locality has over 25,425 students receiving food support, 10,525 students receiving housing support with a total cost of over 181,804 million VND and over 3,400 tons of rice.
