The 2025 high school graduation exam is the first year to be organized according to the 2018 General Education Program with the fundamental difference being that it focuses on assessing learners' abilities instead of assessing knowledge and skills like previous exams.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Education and Training, one of the new points of the 2025 graduation exam is that the exam will not only test knowledge but also focus more on assessing the ability to apply knowledge in practice. The exam will have many questions built from real-life situations in life, science, and society, helping candidates clearly see the connection between the knowledge learned and the world around them.

The exam results are used to consider graduation recognition and re-evaluate the teaching and learning process, and for universities and vocational training institutions to use for admission in a spirit of autonomy. Therefore, the exam is designed to clearly differentiate between groups of candidates compared to before.

The test format has changed in structure, aiming at suitability for assessing learners' abilities. The new structure format also contributes to increasing the differentiation of the test, especially the new formats of true/false and short answer.

In addition, with a knowing and understanding rate of about 70%, the 2025 exam will be inclined towards graduation purposes while the understanding and application rate of about 60% will have a good differentiation effect to serve the purpose of admission.

Another highlight of the change in the exam is that the literature subject uses materials other than textbooks. This helps assess students' ability to read, understand and perceive texts in real-life situations, avoiding rote learning or mechanical memorization. Materials can include passages, poems, or situations related to current events and social life.

With the above orientation, to get the best exam results, during the learning and reviewing process, candidates need to understand the nature of the problem, apply knowledge into practice instead of memorizing. They should also increase their practice of exercises according to the exam format structure announced by the Ministry of Education and Training in advance to help consolidate knowledge firmly and systematically.
