About 96,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City completed the 10th grade exam yesterday (June 7). General comments on this year's entrance exam, in all three subjects of math, literature, and English, 9th grade teachers agreed that the exam structure was similar to last year. The way the exam was set was not new, but consistent with professional guidance from the beginning of the school year by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training so that teachers could plan to guide and prepare knowledge and skills for students.
In addition, the admission score for grade 10 is the sum of the scores of 3 subjects with the same coefficient of 1, so the average score of each subject, whether it increases or decreases compared to last year, will affect this year's benchmark score. Therefore, in order to predict the exam scores of 96,000 candidates this year, it is necessary to assess the level of exam requirements.
The average score of students in literature will be higher.
Regarding the literature subject, Ms. Huynh Le Y Nhi, Dong Khoi Secondary School (Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City), commented that the exam did not make the candidates feel burdened. Right in the reading comprehension section, the guidance from doing question 1 with the discovery level to question 2 with the awareness level, improving made the candidates interested. At the same time, although the topics were familiar, the exam editor gave the candidates the initiative, as "committed" by the person in charge of the literature subject to "completely open" for the candidates to choose the materials to include in the writing; analyze, discuss and express their opinions. Therefore, the candidates felt comfortable with the first exam.
Grade 9 students in Ho Chi Minh City completed the grade 10 entrance exam in a relaxed mood because the exam was assessed lightly.
However, teacher Ý Nhi also pointed out that although the exam structure is familiar and seems easy at first glance, the differentiation is quite high. This is demonstrated by the fact that candidates are given the right to proactively choose materials to analyze, discuss, evaluate, draw out meanings, lessons, and relate to reality to suit the topic and requirements of the exam.
Commenting on the average score of this year's exam, Ms. Y Nhi compared the requirements of each part of this year's exam with last year's exam and commented that this year's social commentary and literary commentary sections were differentiated, but in return, this year's reading comprehension section was quite easy and candidates could achieve the maximum score in this section. According to teacher Y Nhi, the average score of the exam may be similar to last year, and the number of candidates achieving the average score will be higher.
ENGLISH SUBJECT WILL HAVE MANY STUDENTS GET GOOD SCORE
Regarding English, teacher Tran Huu Thang, head of the English group at Le Quy Don Secondary School (District 3), assessed that as long as students thoroughly study the 9th grade English textbook, they can easily complete the multiple choice section. The part that students worry about the most in the English exam is the 2 reading comprehension passages. According to teacher Huu Thang, these 2 passages do not pose any difficulty for good and excellent students. Students with average academic ability can do 50%. Teacher Thang predicted that this year there will be many students with good or higher scores and that the average score of this year's exam will be better than last year.
MATH SCORES MAY BE LOWER THAN LAST YEAR
Teacher Dang Hoang Du, who teaches 9th grade math in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "If the literature exam is open, the English exam may have a "rain" of 10 points, then the math exam may tighten the scores of candidates because the math score range may be lower than last year." Teacher Du said that the structure has not changed but there is better differentiation than last year. In which, most of the math types are familiar, from question 1 to question 6. In which, question 3 is a type of math that often appears in semester tests and almost every teacher reviews it for students. Question 7 is of a classification nature and this year's question 8 has a new question in the shape section, question c, idea 2 is to prove that 3 points are in a straight line. This is a difficult question with a high classification nature. The exam has shown quite good differentiation of candidates, suitable for the goal of an entrance exam. According to Mr. Du, with this test, TS will easily get 6 points, but to get 8 points or more is not easy.
Candidates prepare for the math exam for grade 10 entrance exam
Mr. Dang Huu Tri, head of the math group at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), commented that if the practical math section is done carefully, students will get 3.5/4.5 points. Question 8, plane geometry, is a familiar type for students when reviewing for admission. Only question 8c requires reasoning, this is a question to classify students. Overall, the exam is somewhat familiar but also clearly differentiates students.
According to 2 teachers, this year's math score range will be concentrated from 5 to 7, starting with 8 and above will gradually decrease and 10 will be harder to get than last year if students are careful.
From the above analysis, Mr. Dang Hoang Du predicted: "This year's benchmark score may not change compared to last year. However, when the test is differentiated in the two subjects of math and literature, while the English test is too easy for good candidates, the benchmark scores of the top schools may differ more clearly than those of the lower schools. The benchmark scores of the middle schools will be stable, while those of the bottom schools may be lower."
According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1), the standard scores will be more clearly differentiated: Top schools will have 23 points, middle schools will have 19 points and there will be no phenomenon of students passing their wishes with less than 10 points.
