On the afternoon of October 18, the Ministry of Education and Training announced 18 sample exam questions for the high school graduation exam from 2025.

Commenting on the Literature exam, teacher Nguyen Nguyet Nga - Literature teacher, Viet Duc High School (Hanoi) said that the exam closely followed the assessment requirements of the 2018 General Education Program and Official Dispatch 764 of the Ministry on regulations on the structure of graduation exams from 2025.

“The test clearly shows the requirements for assessing the specific abilities of Literature through two main components: reading and writing. In my opinion, this reference test is within the students' ability and suitable for them. The requirement to write a reasonable literary argumentative paragraph is demonstrated by integrating with reading comprehension materials and is limited to one aspect: poetic 'imagery', not causing difficulties for students in terms of content and volume.

The social argumentation question is topical, requiring students to express their personal views and mobilize new knowledge. Overall, this is a good test, consistent with the requirements of the program and the context of the 90-minute test. With this question, candidates will not have difficulty doing it, while teachers can still assess the ability and differentiate students," said Ms. Nga.

Ms. Nguyet Nga suggested that since all reading comprehension sentences are commands, commands and questions should be interspersed to avoid boredom and reduce the imperative nature of the test. Based on students' writing experience, the paragraph length should be increased to about 300 words, instead of 5-7 lines as currently required.

Teacher Pham Thanh Nga - teacher at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Hanoi) said that the exam structure closely follows the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program, ending the practice of studying model Literature and the situation of students guessing questions and memorizing by heart.

“The reading comprehension section requires students to have a firm grasp of the genre’s characteristics and good reading comprehension skills. For the writing section, the question requires students to write a 200-word paragraph that integrates from the reading comprehension section. The social argumentative essay section has an open-ended question, allowing students to express their views and opinions. In my opinion, this sample question is suitable for graduation. If used for university admission, the exam needs to differentiate students in the question requiring them to write a 600-word essay,” said Ms. Nga.

Teachers in the Literature Group - HOCMAI Education System believe that the exam ensures the correct criteria for selecting materials and question matrix.

For the reading comprehension section, the choice of a lyrical poem, not belonging to any textbook, has ensured the requirements and orientation of the 2018 General Education Program. The content of the first two questions indicates signs to identify the poetic form and the image used to compare with the old willow tree in the excerpt at the recognition level.

The reading comprehension section has changed from testing knowledge retention to assessing students' skills.

The next three questions have relatively familiar format and content, so candidates will not have difficulty and can complete this part of the test in about 20 minutes.

The writing section has changed from clarifying genre characteristics to analyzing content; this has greatly reduced psychological pressure on candidates.

In addition, the absence of new material in this question will give candidates more time for the writing section.

In the social argumentation question, the requirement to write a 600-word essay is usually not difficult for candidates; the topic of artificial intelligence is also a familiar issue, choosing evidence and giving sharp opinions will be an advantage, creating impressive articles.

However, to achieve full marks, candidates need to have good examples, convincing evidence and create an impression. Argumentative operations need to be applied flexibly, creatively and clearly express the writer's point of view.
