To have quality television works to participate in press awards?

Công LuậnCông Luận21/10/2024

(CLO) That is the question that many people working in television at local press agencies want to answer. There are many lessons, experiences and different methods of award-winning journalists. But what they have in common is a sharp spirit, working with the base to discover topics and deploy those topics in the most effective way.

Choosing and handling the topic is the decisive factor in the quality of the work.

Journalist Tran Thanh Huyen - working at Bac Giang Radio and Television Station for more than 22 years, she and her colleagues are honored to have many works that have won awards at the National Press Awards, Medals at National Television Festivals; Dien Hong Award, Press Award "For the cause of Great National Unity"... Those 22 years are also the time when she has learned, accumulated experience, improved her expertise and professionalism to become more mature through each report.

Whenever a journalism award is held, she and her colleagues receive instructions on the award rules from the association at all levels. With encouragement from the agency's leaders, she is always eager to start looking for topics and developing topics to have the most impressive works to participate in new journalism awards.

She, like many other colleagues at local stations, always determined that the journalism awards are not only a professional playground to test themselves, to affirm the quality of the press agency they are working for, but also an opportunity to accumulate more professional experience. Draw out new ways of doing journalism, more creative in the way of expressing works. That work must not only have a good topic but also have an attractive way of expressing, breathe life, and be welcomed by a wide audience.

Journalist Tran Thanh Huyen said that to have a quality journalistic work, it is important that the journalistic work has content, form, and method that demonstrates sophistication and depth of expertise. The selection of topics and the handling of topics are factors that determine the quality of the work. Topics in journalistic works submitted for journalism awards must be highly topical, new, strange, attractive, and cases and issues that are of particular interest to public opinion.

Journalist Tran Thanh Huyen gave an example: “In the 3-part series of reports on increasing the rate of party members and village and residential group chiefs, although the story is not new, we raise the question here of why this rate must be increased, while the rate of village chiefs violating the law in Bac Giang accounts for a large number. Among them, most of them are not party members, their shortcomings are due to violating the principle of democratic centralism, embezzlement, corruption... The story is presented in a close, everyday way about the "reckless" village chiefs that we have exploited, mentioned and clarified, attracting a large number of viewers."

Images contain the soul of the work.

It can be said that if choosing a topic is a necessary condition, then handling the topic is a sufficient condition to create a quality journalistic work. In television works, many journalists always value images more than commentary. Images containing content are the soul of the work.

In the digital age, viewers’ psychology has shifted. People want to hear and see the problem directly. Therefore, for each television work, how to present images and comments in an attractive, engaging, and leading way for viewers is a practical question and an effective solution.

Having won many major central journalism awards over the years, journalist Bui Tan Sy, Quang Nam Radio and Television Station, said: "For television works, the expression of vivid images and sounds, the sounds and noises from the scene, is especially important. In particular, the images must be valuable, realistic, emotional, and able to move the hearts of viewers; the images must not be forced, constrained, or staged, arranged... must ensure the authenticity of journalism".

Unlike journalists working at central press agencies, journalists working at local stations have the advantage of understanding the locality and going to the grassroots more. They choose topics that are close to people's lives, especially policies directly related to their lives. The topics must be unique, attractive, and different. The topic can be a small story, a good experience, a valuable asset in life, economic development, new rural construction, sustainable poverty reduction, etc.

The requirements for daily broadcast works have required innovation, while for television works to participate in press awards and win high prizes, it is necessary to change traditional methods to modern methods. The work must be attractive and appealing to television viewers and radio listeners. Only then can such works meet the need to compete for fast and timely information with other newspapers as well as social networks.

If we look at it generally, each locality and each press agency has its own way of doing things, applying different techniques and technologies, but they all have one thing in common: they always innovate themselves.

In addition, it is necessary to maintain participation in training courses, listen to experienced journalists discuss their expertise and specific topics on how to have works participating in high-prize journalism awards... In addition to the guidance of veteran journalists, passion, the spirit of constant effort and creative efforts must always be present.
