Realizing that sea crab is one of the seafood dishes favored by many consumers because of its high nutritional value but is quite scarce, especially the delicious crab (2 shells, newly molted, raised in Cua Sot area), Mr. Nguyen Van Quang in Mai Lam village (Mai Phu commune) boldly invested in high-tech farming.
With many years of experience working in the field of aquaculture and taking advantage of the house near the sea, Mr. Quang invested nearly 600 million VND to build a crab house with more than 1,000 plastic boxes on an area of 200 m2 . This new technology system was installed, instructed on operation, and transferred technology by Aqua Ras Joint Stock Company (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City).
The crab farming system is done indoors, quite synchronous and modern.
According to Mr. Le Ngoc Hanh - Director of Aqua Ras Joint Stock Company: "The high-tech system for raising sea crabs indoors has the outstanding advantage of not requiring much input water thanks to the principle of circulation and aeration to create oxygen. When water is put into the crab farming box, excess food and waste go through the rough filter system, then into the biological tank and the UV disinfection system. Thanks to that, the water source when farming is reused up to 99.5% and helps the crabs to have a high survival rate, increased productivity, and not cause environmental pollution".
Raising crabs using a new technology model, crabs are raised in plastic boxes, not affected by diseases, less affected by weather and environmental changes, so they can be raised all year round, easy to exploit, and have a high level of safety when encountering storms. In particular, raising them using this method, Mr. Quang has made the most of the farming area, short harvest time, continuous sales of pillow products, bringing high productivity, good product quality, easy control of pathogens, ensuring food hygiene and safety...
Crabs are raised in a clean environment, with controlled food sources, suitable humidity and light, so they grow quickly and have good quality.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quang shared: “I have basically mastered the process of raising crabs in plastic boxes. Currently, my model harvests over 100 kg of soft-shell crabs and meat crabs each month, which is popular in the market, highly appreciated by customers, and all that is sold is sold. With prices ranging from 600 - 800 thousand VND/kg, the average monthly revenue is about 70 million VND, minus expenses, asset depreciation, and bank interest, the profit is about 30 million VND/month”.
“Currently, I am focusing on learning from experience, adjusting some shortcomings, overcoming problems arising in system operation and searching for sources of breeds with good resistance, fast growth, low cost for better production. In addition to bringing a new and promising production model to the area, I am ambitious to expand and improve the efficiency of the model so that I can export my aquaculture products abroad,” Mr. Quang added.
The cages are regularly checked and cleaned, so diseases are controlled and minimized.
With a new, unique farming model that initially showed quite good results, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang has contributed to bringing brackish water aquaculture farmers in Loc Ha a new direction, a more modern and safer production method to improve their livelihoods and income. For many months now, many farmers in neighboring areas have come to visit, learn, and exchange experiences to be able to make good use of the potential and advantages of brackish water ponds to raise this nutrient-rich crustacean.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ban in Thach Son commune (Thach Ha) said: “I am raising brackish water aquaculture, so when I heard about the new farming model, I came to visit and learn. With what I saw, I felt very interesting, it almost overcomes the disadvantages of the current crab farming situation such as loss of many breeds, easy to be infected with diseases, difficult to harvest, loss and time consuming care and protection... I will continue to monitor and contact to be able to follow”.
The modern crab farming model in Loc Ha is a place for visiting and learning from the experiences of local aquaculture farmers.
Chairman of Mai Phu Commune People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Bac said: "The high-tech crab farming model of Mr. Nguyen Van Quang is a youth economic model that needs to be encouraged to develop. During the implementation process, the locality always encouraged, accompanied, and provided timely support in terms of land, completion of all types of documents and procedures...
In the coming time, we will continue to monitor and encourage model owners to improve production and business efficiency, expand farming scale associated with environmental protection and create conditions to help other households follow suit. Thereby, contributing to improving the efficiency of using brackish water surface land, diversifying farming methods in a modern direction, helping to solve employment and increase income for local people."
