On the morning of October 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that it had agreed with the Board of Directors of the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital on the plan to use the old facility of the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital (201 Pham Viet Chanh, Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, District 1) as a place for re-examination and inpatient care for patients who have stabilized.

It is expected that the new facility will be operational in early November 2023.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital currently has an average of 1,000 - 1,200 outpatient visits per day, of which about 60% are patients returning for a check-up. In the inpatient departments, there are about 500 - 600 inpatients per day, of which the number of patients requiring long-term treatment accounts for about 20% (about 100 patients).

With the old facility of the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has just agreed to hand over to the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital for use and according to the usage plan approved by the Department of Health, this facility can re-examine about 500 patients per day and reduce the inpatient load for the existing Orthopedic Trauma Hospital by about 100 patients.

The Department of Health requested the two hospitals to urgently organize the handover, receipt, and management in accordance with the law on management and use of public assets. The organization of the handover and receipt of assets must be recorded in a form and the assets must be accounted for in the accounting books, and asset changes must be updated in accordance with regulations.

At the same time, the Board of Directors of the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital is requested to urgently renovate and repair the old facility of the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital to ensure the safety of patients and medical staff when it resumes operation; arrange the minimum necessary equipment for re-examination and care of inpatients, and prepare the emergency room at the Examination Department to soon put this facility into operation.

Previously, SGGP Newspaper published a series of articles "Key medical projects are sluggish: Hospitals are waiting for transfers", reflecting the current situation of the dormitory building of Cao Thang Technical College (located next to the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital) which is seriously degraded, affecting the hospital's operations as well as causing insecurity for patients.

While the project to build a new hospital has not been implemented for too long; the leaders of the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital have sent a document requesting to receive the house and land assets from the Blood Transfusion - Hematology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City (which has moved to a new facility in Binh Chanh District) at 201 Pham Viet Chanh Street, Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, District 1, to serve the needs of patient care and limit the overload situation at the facility in District 5.
