The trend of looking to the countryside
Quang Nam has rich indigenous resources. The province's potential for rural tourism development is still quite large.
Many rural community tourism spots have invested in operations. It can be seen that from the coastal to the mountainous areas of Quang Nam, there are attractive destinations, spontaneous check-in places for many people, even listed on the social networking sites of backpackers.
A clear tourism trend is emerging when from Western tourists to domestic urban residents no longer want to go to luxurious artificial tourist and resort areas.
They want to immerse themselves in and enjoy beautiful natural landscapes. Or more simply, go to the countryside to find their roots, their childhood, and avoid the noise of the city.
Identify resistance
Despite the improvements, the question remains how can DLNT contribute to increasing the income of local residents and have a good proportion in the rural economic structure?
Like other economic sectors, realizing potential requires many conditions, so DLNT cannot be rushed.
First of all, we need capable investors. But it is really difficult to find them.
Large enterprises often look for locations with unique natural landscape advantages to invest in complexes rather than choosing a separate DLNT location.
Meanwhile, it is rare for tourist groups to travel hundreds of kilometers on foot, just to enjoy the scenery and a few tourist products in remote villages.
This is also the reason why rural community tourism spots far from the centers and large tourist areas have few visitors. Tra Que vegetable village, Duy Vinh brick kiln site… have a regular number of visitors thanks to the advantage of being connected to the tourist center of Hoi An ancient town.
However, a tourist destination that only allows visitors to come and then leave immediately and has no products or services to sell to visitors will not benefit the local residents.
Therefore, designing for tourists to travel along the route as well as diversifying tourism products, attractive enough for tourists for many days to create a tour. From accommodation, selling OCOP products, local specialties to commercial activities, services carried out by the people, only then will it create development opportunities.
Some suggestions
In my opinion, there are two options for rural community tourism development models.
Supporting the establishment of community tourism cooperatives or start-up businesses is a feasible solution to soon put DLNT sites into operation. This is what Quang Nam is doing.
But perhaps, due to limitations in tourism business management capacity and investment finance, it is difficult for them to create unique and high-end tourism products and services. Therefore, these entities need to be supported with a part of the cost of investing in facilities, training, education, and help connecting to cooperate and associate with tourism and travel businesses to include them in tours and routes.
Quang Nam currently has a number of tourism businesses operating in the tourism sector. They have a great advantage when expanding their investment to other tourism destinations along a tourism route - also operating as a "tugboat business model".
For example, the cultural - agricultural axis from Hoi An to Nam Tra My was suggested in the OCOP Project and is now included in the Quang Nam Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
This route starts from agricultural and non-agricultural craft villages from Hoi An to marine eco-tourism (including Tam Thanh mural village), continues to Ca Ban village (Tam Ngoc), Phu Ninh lake eco-tourism.
Then, go to Tien Phuoc (with Loc Yen ancient village, Huynh Thuc Khang memorial house and some other scenic spots), then Tra My - a place with scenic waterfalls, primeval forests, ethnic community tourism villages, associated with famous Ngoc Linh ginseng and Tra My cinnamon products, along with many other rare medicinal herbs.
The entire tourism route will be part of the business strategy of the leading enterprise, but they can choose to invest in all or some of the content at some points. The rest of the organization cooperates and links with partners who are small enterprises and cooperatives.
The government needs to have regulations and monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the locations invested by partners as well as providing tourists with service quality according to the common standards of leading enterprises.
On the other hand, community participation in policy selection, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of contents related to indigenous resources and environmental landscape protection must be ensured.
If operated scientifically, DLNT will have a position commensurate with its potential and trends, creating positive mutual impacts to achieve the goal of building new rural areas according to the recently announced Provincial Planning.
