(Dan Tri) - A troop of nearly 60 monkeys destroyed many corn, cassava, and shallot fields of people in Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province.
For about a week, people in Binh Tan Phu commune, Binh Son district have been having a "headache" with a herd of nearly 60 wild monkeys. The monkeys have invaded people's crop areas to bite and destroy crops. Many corn, cassava, and onion fields have been devastated by the monkeys.
Mr. Tran Dung, from Binh Tan Phu commune, said that this group of monkeys is very smart. As soon as they see people, they signal each other to run into the forest. People have tried many ways to chase the monkeys away, but to no avail.
"This group of monkeys is very smart. They wait for the time when there are no people to bite and destroy. My corn field is almost completely destroyed," said Mr. Dung.

Binh Tan Phu area has Thinh Thinh mountain and many densely forested hills. Many years ago, Quang Ngai provincial authorities determined that this area had a group of wild monkeys.
During times of food shortage, these monkeys will flock to the foot of the mountain to destroy crops. Since 2017, the monkeys have appeared many times near residential areas.
On December 19, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Tan Phu commune, said that the monkeys had destroyed many crops that were about to be harvested.
According to Mr. Phuc, the government has promoted measures for people to use such as making scarecrows and making noises to scare monkeys away. People are not allowed to set traps or hunt monkeys.
"The local government has reported to specialized agencies to take measures to support people in chasing away the monkeys," said Mr. Phuc.
