From September 2022, the GEM Project has been implemented by the Provincial Women's Union in coordination with Plan International Vietnam in 5 communes: A Doi, Xy, Thanh, Thuan, Huc (Huong Hoa district). From 2024, the project will expand to 4 more communes: A Bung, A Ngo, Huong Hiep, Mo O (Dakrong district).
The project aims to empower adolescents and young people, especially ethnic minority women and girls aged 11-24, to learn and develop, to be protected and no longer suffer from any form of violence in life, at school or in the community.
After 2 years of implementation, the project focused on investing in improving the capacity of women's union officials, officials of departments and branches at all levels, teachers of secondary and primary schools on gender equality and domestic violence prevention with many appropriate forms. Deploying dozens of training courses, communication points, forums, dialogues...
Propaganda and mobilization of women and people to preserve and practice morality, legal awareness, care for and develop children, provide necessary skills for women to proactively solve issues related to gender equality and prevent domestic violence.
In particular, the Provincial Women's Union has implemented intervention models in each component such as: "Leaders of Change" Club in schools, "Goat Breeding Interest Group" model in economic development in the community, non-agricultural vocational training courses following market trends... In general, the components implemented at the grassroots level have initially been effective, training and communication courses on topics of gender equality, early marriage, empowering girls or intergenerational dialogues in project communes have attracted a large number of women and men to participate.
From practice, many typical individuals, many creative and good ways of doing things, many effective operating models have emerged. Up to now, 9/12 indicators of the project have met and exceeded the plan. “The implementation of the project over the past 3 years has made certain contributions to supporting women and children in preventing and combating domestic violence, enhancing women's power in all fields, contributing to improving the status of women and girls in ethnic minority areas. The organization has increasingly performed well its role of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of women and children in ethnic minority areas,” said Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Tran Thi Thanh Ha.
At the workshop, delegates focused on evaluating the advantages and positive aspects, while pointing out difficulties and limitations in the implementation of the GEM Project in order to find reasonable and effective solutions in the coming time.
