On November 13, news from Saigon Can Tho Eye Hospital (Can Tho City) said that the hospital had just treated a patient who had a piece of metal stuck deep into his eye while repairing a motorbike, causing serious injury.
The patient, Mr. CH (28 years old, living in An Giang province), was hospitalized in severe pain due to a metal object being shot deep into his eye.
After examination, the doctor discovered a sharp foreign object 2 mm long (like the tip of a needle) that had penetrated deep into the anterior chamber of the eye and could not be treated by removing the foreign object from the eye.
After paraclinical examination, eye ultrasound, OCT scan, and determining the exact location of the foreign object, the doctor ordered surgery to remove the foreign object, otherwise it would cause serious vision loss.
After surgery, patient H. recovered well.
According to Master, Doctor Nguyen Trong Duc, Deputy Director of Saigon Can Tho Eye Hospital, work-related accidents involving foreign objects being shot into the eyes often occur because people are subjective and do not take protective measures such as wearing protective glasses. Therefore, people should wear sunglasses to protect their eyes when going out and wear protective glasses when working to protect their eyes.
When objects such as sand, dust, or insects get into the eyes, patients should treat them at home with saline solution to wash their eyes.
In case of a metal object being shot into the eye, do not treat the wound yourself but go to an eye specialist for timely treatment to avoid complications that seriously affect vision.
