The Iran International Badminton Tournament is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Challenge System, which is a place for young players to hone their skills and for players who are not yet ranked to accumulate points and improve their rankings. Vietnam badminton has two representatives participating in this tournament: Le Duc Phat (ranked 83rd in the world) and Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 97th in the world).
Not in the top seeding group nor considered a championship candidate, tennis player Nguyen Hai Dang of Ho Chi Minh City played "sublimely", reaching high performance to win the highest title. In the semi-finals, Hai Dang defeated world No. 76 Viren Nettasinghe (Sri Lanka) and in the final, the 23-year-old talent of Vietnamese badminton defeated world No. 49 Sathish Kumar (India) in just 2 games with scores of 21/17, 21/18 respectively.
Nguyen Hai Dang has successfully won the men's singles championship at the Iran International Badminton Tournament, accumulating 4,000 bonus points. Nguyen Hai Dang will increase his total accumulated points on the world rankings to 22,570 points and is expected to enter the world top 80 when the BWF announces the new weekly rankings. The above achievement also helps Nguyen Hai Dang increase his chances of competing for a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, however, to achieve the set goal, the Ho Chi Minh City player must continue to achieve good results in the following international tournaments.
