On the afternoon of June 22, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, General Luong Cuong, Politburo member, Standing member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, met with Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro Lopez Miera, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba, Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, who is on an official visit to Vietnam. Attending the meeting was Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.

General Luong Cuong welcomed Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro Lopez Miera and his delegation on an official visit to Vietnam; congratulated Cuba on the successful organization of the 10th National Assembly election. Through Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro Lopez Miera, General Luong Cuong sent his warm regards and an invitation to the Political Commissar of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces to return to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

General Luong Cuong affirmed that Cuba and Vietnam are two countries in two hemispheres, but their revolutionary ideals and aspirations for independence and freedom have made the two peoples extremely close and intimate friends. Especially in the current context, the two countries need to further strengthen solidarity, support and assistance to each other, especially in political and ideological education, fostering revolutionary ideals, patriotism and love for socialism for cadres and soldiers, and improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party organizations in the Army.

According to General Luong Cuong, in recent times, cooperation in Party work and political work in the Army has been promoted by both sides, focusing on the following areas: Training, propaganda, sharing of professional experience..., especially the two sides have coordinated to complete the book "History of 60 years of Vietnam-Cuba defense relations", contributing to educating the younger generation and effectively propagating the special friendship between the two countries and the two Armies.
General Luong Cuong said that based on the results of the talks earlier the same day between General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense and Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro Lopez Miera, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army continues to direct functional agencies and units to practically and effectively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon by the two sides.

For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera emphasized the tradition of special friendship between the two countries' armies and peoples. Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera stated that each time he visits, he witnesses new developments in Vietnam. Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera expressed his hope that in the coming time, the two countries' armies will continue to promote the tradition of special friendship to effectively implement the Cooperation Plan for the 2023-2025 period that he and Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang signed after the talks that morning, thereby contributing to the development of the two countries and maintaining peace, security and prosperity in the world.

Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera affirmed that the Cuban Army and people will continue to uphold the spirit of “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood” as leader Fidel Castro once affirmed, determined to work with Vietnam to continuously strengthen the special friendship between the two countries.
