Ho Chi Minh City National University signed a cooperation agreement with Deakin University in research and development of artificial intelligence

On the afternoon of April 8, Vietnam National University (VNU) Ho Chi Minh City and Deakin University (Australia) held a signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement to promote research and training cooperation in AI and a number of other fields. Attending the signing ceremony were Ms. Jennifer Bahen, Australian Education Secretary, leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province.

Accordingly, the two partners will simultaneously implement many areas of cooperation. Specifically:

Cooperation in training and research in the fields of public health, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, digital transformation, agriculture, environment, sustainable development and climate change adaptation.

Cooperate in developing short-term training programs on university administration and public management for leaders and managers of universities, state agencies and enterprises.

Increase the number and scale of student exchange programs, provide research internship opportunities at Deakin University for VNU-HCM students; Develop a mechanism to promote scientists from both sides to connect, jointly carry out research projects, and co-organize international scientific conferences and seminars.

Coordinate training of young lecturers for VNU-HCM through the Project to improve the capacity of lecturers and managers of higher education institutions to meet the requirements of comprehensive fundamental innovation in education and training in the 2019-2030 period of the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of VNU-HCM, the VNU-HCM development strategy for the period 2021-2030 will promote the development of interdisciplinary research programs, especially in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence. The goal is to become the leading center for research and application of artificial intelligence in the country and the region.

Based on more than 10 years of research cooperation and co-supervision of PhD students with professors from the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2I2) under Deakin University, VNU-HCM has identified Deakin University as a strategic cooperation partner in the field of AI and information technology.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to promote the development of joint research projects in the fields of AI and information technology, especially research and development of AI applications in solving major problems in the healthcare, agriculture, public administration management, smart urban construction... in Vietnam, contributing to Ho Chi Minh City in implementing the Program "Research and development of artificial intelligence applications in Ho Chi Minh City in the period of 2020-2030".

According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, previously, VNU-HCM and Deakin University co-organized a Public Lecture program with the participation of leading AI experts from the two universities. At this program, the experts shared and discussed with over 800 lecturers and students of VNU-HCM about the latest achievements, challenges as well as the application potential of AI in many fields, especially in healthcare and biomedical research.
