On December 26, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Quality Assurance of Ho Chi Minh City National University, officially informed about the 2025 Competency Assessment Exam.
Accordingly, this year's exam will continue to be held in 2 rounds. In round 1, candidates will start registering for the exam from January 20, 2025 to February 20, 2025. The first round of the exam will take place on March 30 in 25 provinces/cities.
Phase 2: Candidates register for the exam from April 17 to May 7, 2025. The exam will take place on June 1 in 11 provinces/cities.
Mr. Chinh said that the structure of the competency assessment test of Ho Chi Minh City National University has been adjusted to suit the 2018 General Education Program.
This year's competency assessment test still consists of 120 objective multiple-choice questions. The time to complete the paper-based test is 150 minutes. The maximum score is 1,200, with each question having a different weight depending on its difficulty.
The test retains the structure of the Language and Mathematics sections, but increases the number of questions to increase the reliability and discrimination of the test. Some other sections have changed.
Specifically, the Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving section is restructured into the Scientific Thinking section to assess candidates' ability in logic and scientific reasoning when solving real-life situations.
The questions in the Scientific Thinking section are designed to provide information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results. Through this, candidates are required to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.
According to Mr. Chinh, in theory, there are a total of 126 subject combinations that students can choose from. However, in reality, the options for choosing subject combinations for high school students are very diverse.
Statistics on subject selection in Ho Chi Minh City show that Physics, Chemistry, and Informatics are chosen by about 55% to 70% of students. Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education are chosen by about 40% to 50% of students. Technology is chosen by about 25% of students; Music and Fine Arts are chosen by fewer students, about 2% to 3%," Mr. Chinh said, explaining that the reason why Ho Chi Minh City National University changed the exam structure is to accurately assess the ability of candidates studying under the new program.
