Confirmed admission but want to give up for additional consideration

After the universities announce their admission scores, candidates will confirm their admission online on the Ministry of Education and Training's Admission System.

After completing the online admission confirmation on the Ministry's System, candidates need to enroll according to the online and direct admission time of each university to proceed with the next steps. Candidates must complete the online admission confirmation to be admitted to the universities. If the online admission confirmation 2024 on the Ministry's System is not completed, the candidate will be considered to have refused the opportunity to be admitted.

Candidate Nguyen Lan Phuong (Ha Tinh) said she had registered for two admission wishes to the Early Childhood Education major at two universities and was admitted to her second wish at a university in Hanoi, but now she wants to transfer to study near her hometown or at a university in the same area.

“I recently learned that a university in the province has additional admissions for the Early Childhood Education major. I have already been admitted and confirmed my enrollment, but I still want to apply for additional admissions. Is that possible?” Lan Phuong asked.

Ms. Hoang Thu (a parent in Phu Tho) said that her child was admitted to the Nursing program at Duy Tan University (Da Nang) based on her high school transcript, but her daughter suddenly changed her mind and wanted to study at a public university in the North. Ms. Thu wondered if her child could not enroll and participate in the supplementary admission process. This is also the question of many candidates and parents when sending it to universities or appearing in admissions consulting programs.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, additional university admissions will last until December 2024, divided into several phases.

After confirming admission, candidates still have to take the next steps such as enrolling at the university, paying fees, tuition, etc. Candidates are only officially admitted when they have submitted all admission documents and paid tuition and other fees required by the school.

In case the candidate has confirmed on the system but does not complete the admission procedures and does not pay the fees, it is considered that he/she has not passed the first round of admission.

What do experts warn?

At the recent consultation "Is there still a chance for additional admission?", experts gave advice to candidates as well as warnings about being admitted but not enrolling.

According to experts, when considering additional admissions, most schools have met their quotas, some schools are just short of a few quotas, which can easily lead to high competition rates and the story of "when the tide rises, the boat rises", with scores in the additional round being higher than the first round.

Giving further advice to candidates, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai - Vice Principal of Duy Tan University said: "Last year, about 15% of candidates did not confirm their admission for many reasons. This was due to many different reasons, maybe the school was far from home, maybe the tuition fee was beyond the candidate's family's ability, however, candidates should note their right to refuse admission."

According to Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, the Ministry of Education and Training requires candidates to confirm their admission on the system from August 19 to no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 27. After this time, if candidates do not confirm their admission, it is considered that they have refused their admission. After August 27, candidates are not allowed to return to the educational institution (which previously refused admission) to request re-confirmation of admission.

“If admission is not confirmed, candidates can consider additional applications, but note that the admission score in the additional round will be greater than or equal to the first round's benchmark score. If your score is only equal to the first round's benchmark score, you can be admitted, but you should consider and apply to several schools. Although according to the Ministry of Education and Training, the time for schools to consider additional admission is from August 28, universities decide the time for additional admission, candidates must follow the time from the schools. If the score is higher than the first round's benchmark score, your chance of being admitted is higher,” said Dr. Vo Thanh Hai.

For candidates who are admitted to a major they do not like, MSc. Pham Doan Nguyen - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance said that candidates should consider whether there is still a chance to be considered for additional admission. However, candidates need to consider carefully before deciding to enroll or refuse to enroll for additional consideration.
