Da Nang deploys response to tropical depression

At 7:00 a.m. on September 18, the center of the tropical depression was at about 16.7 degrees North latitude, 113.5 degrees East longitude, about 220 km east of Hoang Sa archipelago. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 7 (50-61 km/h), gusting to level 9; moving mainly westward at a speed of about 15 km/h.

Forecast by 7:00 a.m. on September 19, the tropical depression is about 210 km east-southeast of Quang Tri, about 120 km east of Da Nang, moving in the West-Southwest direction, about 20 km/h, strengthening into a storm, level 8, gusting to level 10. By 7:00 a.m. on September 20, the tropical depression is located on the Vietnam-Laos border area, moving in the West-Northwest direction, about 15 km/h, moving inland and gradually weakening, strengthening to level 6, gusting to level 8.

In the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression will move in the West Northwest direction, traveling 10-15km per hour and weaken into a low pressure area.

In the early morning of September 18, the whole city of Da Nang and its coastal areas had showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. The total rainfall from 5am to 8am on September 18 was generally 20-40mm, with higher rainfall in some places such as Linh Ung Pagoda 112.0mm, Suoi Da 109.2mm, Thach Gian Lake 78.4mm, Hoa Khe 70.0mm, Da Nang 83.0mm.

Convective clouds are forecast to continue to develop and expand, causing moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain in Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son, Cam Le districts and Hoa Vang district with common rainfall of 20-40mm/3h, in some places over 70mm/3h. There will be showers and strong thunderstorms in the sea. During thunderstorms, be on guard against tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

In the face of the development of natural disasters, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City has issued a telegram requesting forces, departments, branches, localities and units to respond to the tropical depression near the East Sea; requesting units to proactively organize close monitoring of forecast information, developments of tropical depressions and possible rain and floods. At the same time, promptly direct and deploy response work according to the Plan for prevention and overcoming consequences corresponding to some natural disaster scenarios in 2024 in the city.
