Extortion of property from people, a press collaborator in Ho Chi Minh City was arrested

Ho Chi Minh City Police Department read the search warrant at Le Xuan Dao's residence.

On January 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department informed that it had executed a search warrant at the residence of Le Xuan Dao (born in 1995, from Nghe An, currently residing at 125/12/3 An Phu Dong 9 Street, An Phu Dong Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City).

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, Le Xuan Dao is a contributor to a newspaper with an office in Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, the Criminal Police Department (PC02), Ho Chi Minh City Police discovered a group of reporters and collaborators who specialized in finding construction works, garages, and businesses operating illegally to extort property, so they planned to monitor them.

The police agency determined that Dao extorted property from a resident in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City.

Dao and his accomplices took turns approaching the victim to pressure him into giving them money or else they would publish their violations in the newspaper.

After a period of monitoring and collecting, PC02 caught Dao red-handed extorting property from a resident in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City for 27 million VND.

Previously, in December 2023, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province also prosecuted Dang Ngoc Bao (born in 1977, residing in Hai Chau district, Da Nang city) to investigate the act of "Extortion of property".

Specifically, through monitoring on mass media, Dang Ngoc Bao grasped the information that Truong Loi Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Dai Quang Industrial Cluster, Dai Loc district) violated the exploitation and transportation of minerals at the sand mine in Ngoc Kinh Dong village, Dai Hong commune, Dai Loc district but has not yet completely remedied.

On November 28-29, Dang Ngoc Bao and a number of people went directly to the mineral exploitation site of Truong Loi Joint Stock Company to collect information and images and requested the company's leaders to meet and discuss directly with Dang Ngoc Bao, otherwise they would publish articles that would affect the company's operations.

At around 4:00 p.m. on November 29, at a coffee shop in Phu Hai village, Dai Hiep commune, Dai Loc district, Dai Loc district police caught Bao red-handed receiving 9.8 million VND from a representative of Truong Loi Joint Stock Company.

Through investigation, Dang Ngoc Bao confessed that he is currently a reporter for an environmental and social magazine.
