Every early morning, tons of fresh vegetables and fruits from Trung Thai Safe Vegetable Production and Trading Service Cooperative (Quang Chinh Commune, Hai Ha District) are transported to supply Texhong Hai Ha Industrial Park and Ngan Long Industrial Park (Mong Cai City). This is one of the few agricultural cooperatives in the province that maintains long-term, stable business relationships with foreign enterprises. Director of the Cooperative Vu Van Dung has built production areas, created linkage chains, networks of partners and customers.

Director Vu Van Dung introduces the cooperative's clean vegetable garden.

Born and raised in Hai Ha, Mr. Dung's life has always been associated with farming. The urbanization and industrialization process in recent times has brought many challenges but also brought many opportunities for agricultural development. Realizing that the demand for green vegetables in industrial parks is very high, Mr. Dung established a cooperative, mobilizing family capital to grow clean vegetables in greenhouses. Initially, it was 2,000m2 of greenhouses, creating a closed production environment. The clean and safe green vegetable products of the cooperative were soon recognized by customers, including the kitchen of Texhong Hai Ha Industrial Park.

To meet customer requirements, Mr. Dung cooperates with farmers with acreage and farming experience to expand vegetable growing areas; brings affiliated households to become cooperative members, encourages households to invest in applying greenhouse technology, net houses, and water-saving irrigation, in order to produce clean vegetables, meeting food safety standards set by customers. The cooperative currently controls production factors, such as automatic spraying systems that help provide enough water for each type of vegetable; net house systems help control parameters of temperature, light, humidity, carbon dioxide, etc., thereby avoiding the impact of weather on crops, limiting the intrusion of pests and insects, etc.

The cooperative currently has more than 20 associated and member households, with a cultivation area of nearly 10 hectares, of which 3 hectares are directly cultivated by the cooperative; the cultivation value is about 150 million VND/ha/year. The cooperative creates jobs for about 60 workers, with an income of 6-8 million VND/person/month. The cooperative's green vegetable output is about 2.5-3 tons/day, of which over 70% is supplied to industrial parks. The cooperative's green vegetables are highly appreciated, trusted, and ordered long-term by customers.

Mr. Dung said: Agriculture cannot make you rich quickly, but it can create jobs for weak and idle workers. The important thing is that agriculture is sustainable, helping farmers have a stable life and have time to take care of their families and children. The cooperative is continuing to research and apply new technology to vegetable production. Because science and technology are the key to success, especially in agricultural production with the support of advanced production processes and equipment.
