While Jennie's "Mantra" topped the charts, Lisa's "Rockstar" faced controversy.
Both Jennie and Lisa have pursued solo activities, however, the two popular female members of BLACKPINK are experiencing completely different results for their individual careers. While Jennie's new song release "Mantra" has taken the top spot on the charts, Lisa - who released a solo song not long before - has been embroiled in controversy surrounding her solo song "Rockstar".
Speaking of Jennie, she has returned to solo activities about a year after her special single "You & Me" last October. With Jennie leaving YG Entertainment and establishing her own agency OA Entertainment, her new release "Mantra" has drawn both anticipation and concern.
However, Jennie has proven her abilities once again with this comeback, affirming her position as a "shining solo artist". "Mantra" debuted at No. 5 on Spotify's "Daily Top Songs Global" chart, surpassing her previous personal record of No. 13 with "You & Me".
The success of “Mantra” highlighted Jennie’s dedication to her solo career. The song carries a strong message that encourages self-love and confidence, as well as empowering others. With lyrics entirely in English, “Mantra” allowed Jennie to shed her past innocent image and embrace a bolder and more confident persona. This change resonated with the public, further increasing her appeal.
Upon its release, "Mantra" topped the real-time chart on Bugs in Korea and reached No. 1 on iTunes' "Top Songs" in 57 countries/regions, including the United States, Brazil, Singapore, the Philippines, and Mexico. Notably, Jennie became the first K-pop female solo artist to reach No. 1 on the US iTunes "Top Songs" chart this year. The music video for "Mantra" also reached No. 1 on YouTube's trending videos in both Korea and the United States upon its release and ranked No. 1 on YouTube's global trending chart, attracting significant attention both domestically and internationally. These indicators show that Jennie has successfully captured both domestic and global markets.
Meanwhile, Lisa, who released “Rockstar” on June 28, has been mired in controversy. Accusations of plagiarism in the music video and lip-syncing during performances, including at the Global Citizen Festival in New York, have put her in the spotlight. Fans who previously praised her for her live performance talent have been left disappointed by these incidents.
