Digital technology for journalism, media and publishing in the 4th Industrial Revolution

On October 27, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) in collaboration with the Institute of Innovation and Digital Transformation organized the Workshop "Promoting digital transformation of press and publishing agencies" with the theme "Digital technology for press, media and publishing activities in the trend of Industrial Revolution 4.0".

Workshop To realize the Prime Minister's Decision 348/QD-TTg on the strategy for digital transformation of newspapers until 2025, with a vision to 2030, together we will look at the changes in the trend of digital transformation of newspapers, assess the advantages and difficulties in the digital transformation process and propose solutions to promote digital transformation activities of press and publishing agencies.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Journalism Associations, said that digital transformation is considered an inevitable trend for the world press in general and Vietnam in particular. In the world, the pioneering and successful implementation of digital transformation, bringing the traditional news reporting model to many new formats to keep up with the digital transformation trend, and not only retaining old readers but also attracting many new readers in the context of information explosion, many competitive challenges from social networks.

"In Vietnam, thanks to adapting and making changes in the context of digital transformation, many online newspapers in Vietnam have quickly created attraction for readers, while demonstrating the ability to convey information quickly and diversely.

Many press works apply digital technology and data to create two-way interaction with readers, attracting and creating a sense of closeness with readers. Digital transformation at press agencies also greatly supports journalists and reporters, making it easier to collect information, conduct data analysis, and produce content," Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh affirmed.

At the workshop, experts and speakers discussed a variety of issues from challenges and opportunities of digital transformation of journalism, development trends of journalism and digital publishing, newsroom models converging in new trends, to activities to create new business models with the development of journalism and publishing using digital technology and data analysis, as well as technological advances, especially artificial intelligence (AI) in the production and creation of content for journalism and publishing.

Sharing the press agency's perspective on the digital transformation process, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhat, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus E-newspaper, provided an overview of the development trend of digital journalism and the challenges facing the goals towards the Digital Transformation Strategy of journalism.

Deputy Director, Institute of Innovation and Digital Transformation Hoang Nguyen Van discussed revenue generation models, as well as new businesses based on data and data analysis, and models that generate economic value for digital journalism.

Mr. Nguyen Sieu Dang, Smart Pro Security Expert, provided an overview system for the Newsroom that converges with security solutions in data journalism and digital journalism. Mr. Pham Vu Minh Tu, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, illustrated the application of AI technology in news and content production through a number of video clips highlighting the advantages of this technology in news content production and digital journalism.

Experts and speakers also discussed many topics related to digital transformation in journalism: Policies and actions with digital transformation strategies for journalism; Digital transformation initiatives for journalism oriented towards the development of data journalism, data journalism; Perspectives and principles guiding the use of AI in digital journalism; copyright of digital products/documents in digital space; data analysis and AI promoting digital transformation of journalism, media and publishing

The reports, presentations and discussions at the Workshop reflected different perspectives on favorable conditions for implementing digital transformation in press agencies. At the same time, they proposed fundamental solutions to support and promote digital transformation in press and publishing agencies.
