Da Nang City Police received a letter of commendation for dismantling a foreign loan shark ring.

The content of the letter of commendation stated: Recently, Da Nang City Police has presided over and coordinated with professional units of the Ministry of Public Security and local police to organize a special investigation, destroying the entire loan sharking ring through 3 applications on mobile devices.

This line, led by foreigners, has lent to more than 1.3 million people with more than 2 million loans via the app, with a loan amount of about 9,000 billion VND.

Notably, this lending line charged interest rates of 500 - 1,000%/year, illegally profiting more than 2,500 billion VND.

The police force summoned nearly 200 people to work, arrested 27 suspects (including 2 Chinese people), seized 247 computers, 177 mobile phones and many documents and evidence of the case.

"This is an exceptionally outstanding achievement of the Da Nang City Police in implementing the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Public Security on preventing, stopping and handling illegal credit activities and ensuring security and order for the 2024 Lunar New Year," the letter of commendation stated.

The Ministry of Public Security assessed that this achievement contributed to curbing one of the causes that gave rise to and promoted criminal offenses, causing insecurity in the financial and banking systems, directly affecting socio-economic development; affirming the bravery, prestige and capacity to fight and prevent crime of the police force.

Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, on January 11, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police coordinated with other units to raid 9 locations in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, working with 12 banks to freeze 28 accounts with a total amount of over 15 billion VND of individuals and companies in this criminal organization.

In addition to praising the achievements of Da Nang City Police, the Ministry of Public Security requested to continue to investigate and expand the case, urgently consolidate documents and evidence of the case to strictly handle the subjects; at the same time, do a good job of propaganda about the methods and tricks of crime so that people can be proactive in vigilance and prevention.
