At the Neurosurgery Department of the Saint Paul General Hospital, Ms. TTTH gradually recovered after spinal surgery. When she first woke up, she suppressed the pain and kept asking about her children.

Ms. TTH (teacher H's aunt) said that no one dared to tell the truth that her granddaughter had passed away because they were afraid that Ms. H would not be able to bear the great shock. This morning, the family arranged the funeral for her in her hometown.

The house has 5 people, at night when discovering the fire, her husband rushed out to the hallway to check the situation but it was too late. At that time, toxic gas began to invade the floors. " Honey, there's a fire, let the children run first", Ms. H recalled her husband's words.

Her 4th grade daughter and 3rd grade son held hands and ran back upstairs, but due to the complicated situation, they lost each other. The son ran up to the 6th floor, was pulled into a room by residents to avoid toxic smoke, waited for the rescue team to arrive and was successfully rescued at 2am.

Her daughter was not so lucky, she was lost and died. Ms. H still hasn't heard the bad news, so she "feels lucky that the whole family is alive."

Ms. H. said that at the moment of death, her husband quickly wrapped himself in a blanket, hugged his 27-month-old child and jumped onto the neighbor's roof. She also jumped after him, escaping through the window.

“At that time, we thought if we didn’t take the risk, we would surely die. The neighbor’s house was across the street, if we didn’t aim at the right spot, we would fall to the ground,” Ms. H recounted, adding that at that moment, both she and her husband knew they would be injured.

Ms. H. has been a teacher at the Thanh Xuan District Continuing Education Center since 2010. According to information from the Thanh Xuan District Department of Education and Training, as of this morning, schools reported that 13 students in the area died in the mini apartment fire.
