Dinh Tra My (23 years old) was born into a family with a revolutionary tradition. Her grandfather is a war invalid, her father is currently an officer working in the army, and her mother is an elementary school teacher.
Tra My said that since she was little, listening to her grandfather and father talk about the years of fighting on the battlefield, she loved the green uniform of the soldiers and admired the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers. Over the years, that love grew and she nurtured her dream of becoming a soldier.
Therefore, after graduating from FPT University Can Tho with a major in Information Technology (November 2023), instead of applying for a job at a business or agency, Tra My volunteered to join the army.
Passing many strict criteria during the selection process, I was chosen and received the call to join the army, putting my name on the list of soldiers of Uncle Ho's Army.
Dinh Tra My shared: “Since I was little, I have wanted to be a soldier. When I heard the news of being recruited, I was very happy and very emotional. Through the stories of my grandfather and father, I understand that the military environment will have many hardships, difficulties, challenges, and iron discipline. Being a girl will certainly have more difficulties, but I will try and be determined to complete my mission well to become a good soldier. My wish is to serve in the military for a long time.”
Sharing the same wish as Tra My, these days, female recruit Pham Xuan Nghi (25 years old) is "as happy as a festival" when she officially becomes a soldier in green uniform (Border Guard).
Xuan Nghi confided: "In 2022, I graduated from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment at Can Tho University and returned home to help my mother because my father passed away, leaving only the two of us. When I heard that this year's military recruitment season had a quota for female soldiers, I volunteered to join the army and luckily I received a decision to enlist and join the Border Guard force."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu (Xuan Nghi's mother) said: "Since she was little, she has wanted to become a soldier like her father. When she heard that this year there would be a recruitment of female soldiers, she volunteered to join the army and was very happy when she was able to join the Border Guard force. Now that she is in the army, I am sure she will miss me a lot, but I told her to rest assured and go on her mission, to try her best to fulfill her duty as a soldier."
“I have loved the green uniform of soldiers since I was a child and dreamed of becoming a soldier. I know that the military environment is harsh, difficult and tiring, but I will try my best, overcome all difficulties and challenges, and quickly integrate into the military environment. I wish to serve the Vietnam People's Army for the rest of my life,” Xuan Nghi shared about her ambition.
Knowing that the military environment for female soldiers will be difficult and arduous, Tra My and Xuan Nghi are still enthusiastic and determined to join the army. The beautiful actions of the two new female soldiers have inspired many members and young people of Soc Trang to participate in performing their sacred duty to the Fatherland.
