Ho Chi Minh City After 6 months of being a vegetarian, makeup artist Tuan Ngoc Vo lost 20 kg, improved his appearance, and became healthier and more confident.

Tuan Ngoc Vo, real name Vo Ngoc Tuan, attracted attention when working with many KOLs (influential, famous people on social networks) and famous Vbiz artists.

As a lover of beauty, Tuan once weighed a peak of 93 kg. He tried and experienced different methods many times but failed because he craved food and easily gained weight again.

In mid-2023, Tuan Ngoc Vo began a new journey, starting at 87 kg. After 6 months, he caused a stir when he shared a photo of himself after losing 20 kg.

At the age of 30, the male make-up artist has upgraded his appearance, possessing a youthful appearance and a balanced body by maintaining exercise and a healthy diet.

Vegetarian

The reason Tuan started a vegetarian diet was because he wanted to reduce his irritability. He chose to eat two main meals without starch and one side meal of vegetables or fruit. Thanks to this way of eating, Tuan lost 15 kg.

According to Tuan, this diet is quite easy because there is no need to fast or abstain from any harsh diet. His body is also healthy and does not feel tired during the weight loss process.

According to experts, vegetarianism helps prevent or reduce cholesterol intake. Vegetarians can reduce the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease as well as the burden on the liver. Vegetarian foods are easy to digest, so this diet can help increase metabolism, balance the microflora and reduce inflammation and intestinal infections. Vegetarians burn more calories than non-vegetarians.

In addition, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), people who eat more than 400 grams of fruits and vegetables per day can limit cardiovascular diseases, stomach cancer and colorectal cancer.

However, an improper vegetarian diet can have negative effects on the body. For example, anemia, protein, vitamin B12, iron, calcium deficiency causes osteoporosis, reduces creatinine levels in muscles, and menstrual disorders in women with high physical activity levels.

Therefore, doctors recommend that a daily vegetarian diet must ensure adequate and balanced intake of 4 groups of nutrients: starch, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals in appropriate proportions and supplemented with substances such as vitamin B12, omega-3, vitamin D, iron, zinc, and calcium.

Gym, boxing and cycling

After losing 15 kg thanks to a vegetarian diet, Tuan wanted to have a firmer body so he spent 5 days a week exercising. He chose to exercise between 8-10pm, after work, with a fixed schedule of 3 gym sessions, 1 boxing session and 1 cycling session.

Thanks to that, in a short time, Tuan lost another 5 kg, reaching 67 kg by the end of 2023, and his sleep was also better and deeper.

Many studies have shown that gym exercises stimulate hormone production, so that muscles absorb the necessary amount of amino acids and become firmer. When practicing gym regularly and with the right technique, the body's metabolism runs more smoothly, and the amount of calories burned increases significantly, thereby helping to lose weight.

Kickboxing burns calories, helps build muscle strength, improves agility and balance. This is a sport that improves health and fitness, but high-intensity training can increase the risk of shoulder, back, hip and knee injuries. Everyone should warm up thoroughly before exercising and stretch after finishing. Avoid wearing loose clothing and inappropriate shoes because they can restrict movement. Experts recommend a safe intensity of at least three days a week and each session lasts an hour.

Cycling is a low-impact exercise that is suitable for all ages. It benefits the blood vessels, heart, lungs and helps improve muscle and joint strength.

When cycling, the muscles in the lower back support the upper body, helping to stabilize the upper body and keep the spine straight. The forward lean also increases mobility and strength in the back muscles. The cycling motion encourages the production of synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints and protects them from pain and stiffness. It also improves overall lower body function and strengthens the leg muscles without putting undue stress on the joints.

Cycling at high intensity also reduces thigh fat, promoting the maintenance of a suitable weight. The reason is that this exercise often targets the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and calves. Cycling also affects the biceps, triceps and shoulder muscles, thereby toning these muscles and burning fat in the arms. The exercise also benefits important muscle groups in the body, reducing fat accumulation in the abdomen.

Currently, Tuan maintains a vegetarian diet, reduces starch and works out 5-6 days a week. Tuan has gained 71 kg but mainly gained muscle and lost fat, so his body has become firmer and more toned.

After the change, Tuan gradually became more confident. He comfortably participated in filming or attended events that he previously did not dare to accept because of his insecurity about his appearance. "Lose weight naturally and slowly, do not try to lose weight because it will be easy to give up," he said.
