Sharing with Thanh Nien on May 28, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu, Deputy Director of the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), said that on May 30, two Japanese plant quarantine experts will be present in Vietnam to supervise lychee export batches.
Many lychee gardens in Bac Giang lost 50% of their output compared to 2023.
MAFF experts will be present at lychee export packaging facilities in Bac Giang and Hai Duong. All travel, accommodation and remuneration expenses during the working period in Vietnam will be paid by the enterprises according to Japanese regulations.
Also according to MAFF's requirements, Vietnamese lychees exported to Japan must be packaged and fumigated with methyl bromide at facilities recognized by the Plant Protection Department and MAFF with a minimum dosage of 32 g/m³ for 2 hours, ensuring the removal of all residual microorganisms and chemicals (if any).
During the processing period, Japanese and Vietnamese plant quarantine experts will supervise and stamp certification for each shipment.
In December 2019, Japan allowed the import of fresh lychees from Vietnam, after 5 years of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and MAFF agreeing and unifying the conditions for quarantine and lychee treatment.
In June 2020, Japan sent experts to Vietnam for the first time to certify lychee exports. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Japanese experts came to Vietnam by plane carrying medical supplies, without having to be quarantined, to work at a lychee export processing factory.

Bac Giang farmers are entering the lychee harvest season.
