On the evening of April 17, the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day was officially opened at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi). This event was jointly organized by the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the Hanoi People's Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Publishing Association.

Beating the drum and speaking at the opening ceremony, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Central Propaganda Department, highly appreciated the organization of Book and Reading Culture Day, creating a cultural beauty for the people of the capital and people across the country.

The Head of the Central Propaganda Department emphasized that the event brought 4 practical messages: Good books need readers, Precious books to give to friends, Giving good books - Buying real books, Good books: Eyes to read - Ears to listen. Responding to Book Day and Book Fair this year, many publishers, book distributors, and book technology companies have actively participated, bringing a new vitality to spreading reading culture and encouraging reading habits.

The series of activities and events celebrating the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day held in Hanoi, as well as across the country, practically contributed to promoting the beauty of traditional culture, encouraging and developing the reading movement in the community.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that publishing units increase activities to introduce and promote works by Vietnamese authors to international friends so that international friends can come to Vietnam and understand Vietnamese culture, thereby contributing to enhancing the image and position of Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications, said that in 2021, the Prime Minister decided to upgrade Book Day April 21 to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day with the goal of not only honoring book writers and book makers, but more deeply, honoring readers and honoring reading culture.

The four messages of this year's Book and Reading Culture Day are simple but meaningful, all aiming at this goal with the desire for publishing to contribute to building the national knowledge system, developing the intellectual team, and meeting the requirements of industrialization and modernization of the country.

"Digital transformation places new requirements on the publishing industry. To develop, it must operate simultaneously in both old and new spaces. The old space, with the help of technology, will be expanded, improving quality and labor productivity. The new space will help publishing expand its market, create new products, and create new long-term development.

"To develop publishing, it is necessary to strengthen communication and promotion of books and reading culture. The Departments of Information and Communications of provinces and cities, press and media agencies, and telecommunications networks need to join hands to support and have practical activities so that communication and promotion will not only be done on this April 21st occasion but will become a regular and continuous task throughout the year, so that reading culture can spread and become an endogenous strength and a beauty of Vietnamese culture," said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.

Sharing about the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, Mr. Ha Minh Hai, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that in recent years, the reading culture in the capital has had clear developments and substantial changes. Reading has become a habit and a beauty in social life. The publishing industry has affirmed its position and importance in contributing to building a learning society and building elegant and civilized Hanoians.

The opening program of the third Book and Reading Culture Day brought readers, audiences and visitors a performance using 3D mapping technology (a combination of 3D and film technology), eye-catching and artistic performances honoring books, reading culture and publishing activities.

Also on the evening of April 17, the Book Fair celebrating the third Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day began to welcome readers and visitors at the Van Lake area (located in the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic complex). The Book Fair had the participation of 60 publishing and distribution units participating in displaying, introducing and providing readers with over 40,000 valuable book titles.

This year’s series of activities for Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day takes place from April 17 to May 1, and is free to enter. During the book fair, there will be many discussions and book introductions; exchanges with authors and works; special art programs suitable for many audiences…

The book fair will open from 8am to 10pm daily, creating conditions for readers and tourists to visit and experience.

In addition, readers also enjoy many attractive book promotion programs from publishing and distribution units.
