The workshop was organized with the aim of analyzing and evaluating the potential that energy transition brings to economic development as well as the labor market in Vietnam. Accordingly, energy transition needs to consider and combine social, cultural, environmental, economic and identity aspects to ensure fairness, leaving no one behind.
The event attracted nearly 200 delegates participating in person and more than 300 delegates participating online from the National Assembly, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Group, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the German Institute for Employment Research, the Institute for Sustainable Futures - University of Technology Sydney and representatives of the private sector.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Dr. Guido Hildner, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam, shared Germany's experience: "In Germany, between 2012 and 2020, the number of employees working in green-skilled occupations increased by 56.7% to 5 million people. This shows that the energy transition is a complex process with strict requirements, but also great opportunities that benefit people and the economy."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam, acknowledged the importance of training and upgrading skills for workers and said that this is a necessary solution to support workers to maintain jobs, change jobs, thereby maintaining livelihoods and stabilizing their lives during the energy transition.
She expected experts and delegates to share practical experiences in unlocking the potential of energy transition, and propose specific solutions related to employment and skills training for workers to serve the goal of a fair energy transition.

The workshop included in-depth group discussions in five areas: wind power, solar power, the role of women in the energy sector, energy efficiency and green transport. Delegates from the public and private sectors discussed, analyzed and proposed breakthrough solutions for a just energy transition in Vietnam.
Experts assert that skills development and employment promotion solutions are needed to realize the employment potential in this sector. At the same time, attention must be paid to gender equality and enhancing the role of women in the energy transition.
Mr. Ta Dinh Thi, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, affirmed: "Vietnam, together with the international community, is committed to striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and pursuing a just energy transition. We recognize the importance of developing the necessary skills and are ready to learn from good examples in the world; at the same time, we highly appreciate the Vietnam - Germany cooperation relationship and believe that this relationship will contribute positively to the just energy transition and a green future, sustainable development for Vietnam."
The workshop is expected to create a forum to bring the topic of energy transition associated with job transition closer to the public, and more importantly, Vietnam has the right and appropriate policies to transition energy in a fair and sustainable manner.
