Could the Deputy Minister tell us about the outstanding significance and importance of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the 54th WEF Davos Conference in Switzerland?
The 54th WEF Davos Conference will take place from January 15-19, 2024 with the theme “Rebuilding Trust”. This is the largest WEF Davos Conference since the COVID-19 pandemic and has the participation of the most leaders of countries and international organizations ever.
With the participation of nearly 100 senior leaders of countries and international organizations, about 3,000 leaders of global corporations and businesses, this year's Conference is truly a world-class event to share ideas, have fascinating and multi-dimensional discussions on world economic prospects, new trends and global development visions; promote and connect economic, trade and investment cooperation in various fields between countries and with businesses; at the same time, mobilize global strength, especially public-private cooperation to create new growth drivers, solve common challenges in the current difficult, risky and uncertain context.
With such scale and significance of the Conference, the Prime Minister's first working trip to attend the WEF Davos Conference this year is important in many aspects:
Firstly, the Conference is a valuable opportunity to grasp the world's thinking, ideas, development models, governance models and development trends, or in other words, to exchange and listen to the "beat" of the world, thereby seizing and promptly exploiting new opportunities and trends, effectively responding to challenges, and maximizing resources to serve the country's socio-economic development.
Second, in the context of recent years, our country has achieved outstanding achievements in epidemic prevention and control and socio-economic development, creating a very favorable foreign situation for development. This is an ideal time for us to share, inform, and promote achievements, orientations, national development strategies, Vietnam's foreign policies and guidelines, conveying a strong message about a dynamic and innovative Vietnam, an attractive investment destination for global corporations. From there, transform our current favorable foreign environment into specific economic cooperation results, practical investment projects, creating new driving forces to promote the country's rapid and sustainable development.
Third, the Prime Minister's participation at the Conference, along with his sharing, assessment and proposals on the situation, viewpoints, development thinking at the global level, and solutions to promote growth and address emerging challenges, will continue to affirm Vietnam's responsible and effective contributions to peace, development and issues of common concern, thereby further enhancing the country's position and prestige in the international arena, especially with the global business community.
Finally, with the participation of many leaders of countries and international organizations in Davos, the Conference is also an opportunity for us to strengthen exchanges and promote cooperation with Switzerland and partners and international organizations, further deepening relations in many fields, especially in economics - trade - investment, continuing to effectively implement the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress.
Could the Deputy Minister tell us what Vietnam is expected to contribute to this conference?
The Prime Minister is expected to have a continuous program of activities at this year's WEF Davos Conference, including attending and speaking at important discussion sessions, including some special sessions dedicated to Vietnam; chairing many seminars with leaders of leading corporations, and bilateral meetings with leaders of countries, international organizations and businesses. The fact that Vietnam is one of the 9 partners proposed by WEF to coordinate in organizing a National Strategy Dialogue with WEF and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is one of the 8 leaders of countries having a separate dialogue with WEF demonstrates the interest, recognition and appreciation of WEF as well as multinational corporations for the role, position, international status, achievements and development vision of Vietnam.
In that spirit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation will participate and actively contribute to the Conference. Firstly, the Prime Minister will share Vietnam's assessments, comments and views on the prospects, opportunities and challenges, the adjustment trends of the world economy in both structure and model, affecting the development of the world and each country. From the experiences and lessons of Vietnam and ASEAN, the Prime Minister will propose both short-term and long-term solutions to strengthen international solidarity, rebuild trust, promote cooperation between countries, between the government and businesses and partners to share common responsibilities, turn the situation around, and turn challenges into opportunities.
Second, we will also continue to emphasize Vietnam's responsible contribution in addressing global challenges, especially in areas where we have strengths such as food security, smart agriculture, climate change adaptation, equitable energy transition, etc.; share experiences in macroeconomic management, promptly grasp and proactively anticipate new trends, and Vietnam's readiness to attract investment, especially in priority areas such as high technology, research and development, green transformation, digital transformation, circular economy, etc.
Third, we will also discuss and propose orientations to promote the potential, strengths, and central roles of ASEAN and Vietnam in promoting growth, strengthening trade, investment, supply chain, and global value, helping to restore the economy, and enhancing the resilience of the global economy.
Deputy Minister, what special significance does the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Hungary and Romania have?
At the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, right after finishing attending the WEF Conference in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife will pay an official visit to Hungary and Romania from January 16 to 22, 2024. This is the first delegation exchange at the Prime Minister level between Vietnam and Hungary in the past 7 years and with Romania in the past 5 years.
Hungary and Romania were two of the first 10 countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam after we gained independence. Looking back over the past 70 years, the Governments and people of the two countries have always given Vietnam great affection and support in the struggle for independence, national reunification, and socio-economic innovation and development. During the COVID-19 pandemic when we faced the most difficulties, Hungary and Romania were the first countries to support Vietnam with hundreds of thousands of doses of vaccines and many medical equipment, contributing to helping us overcome the pandemic soon and reopen and recover the economy.
Hungary and Romania have also actively supported Vietnam in the comprehensive partnership and cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), especially in the process of negotiating, signing and ratifying the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). Romania has made every effort to promote the signing of the EVFTA on the last day of Romania's rotating EU presidency. Hungary is the first EU member state to ratify the EVIPA.
We always highly appreciate and are grateful for such precious sentiments and support. With such profound significance, on the basis of the traditional friendship that has lasted for three-quarters of a century and in the context of a complex, profoundly changing and turning-point world situation, the Prime Minister's visit is of utmost importance in order to continue to consistently implement Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations; including continuing to promote and deepen relations with traditional friends and partners.
During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will hold talks, meetings, contacts and work with senior leaders of Hungary and Romania, visit localities, universities, research centers, businesses, meet with many friends in the Vietnam Friendship Association with Hungary and Romania, and meet with the Vietnamese community living and working in the two countries.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister's visit will contribute to further increasing political trust, strengthening and enlivening the traditional friendship and active mutual support between Vietnam and Hungary and Romania; promoting and bringing traditional cooperation areas such as economy, trade, labor, culture, education, human resource training, etc. to a new stage to meet the development requirements of each country; promoting cooperation in potential and strong areas such as science and technology, information and communication, pharmaceuticals, innovation, etc.; further tightening the friendship between the Vietnamese people and the people of the two countries.
In addition, the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is also an opportunity for us, together with Hungary and Romania, to promote cooperation to connect the relationship between Vietnam and the Central Eastern European region and between the two countries and ASEAN, closely coordinating in solving global issues to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Sincerely thank Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang!
