On the morning of January 14, at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, the Southern Culture Research and Honor Club coordinated with Book Street to organize a discussion on the topic From modern singing to reformed opera.
Attending the seminar were Master - Meritorious Artist Huynh Khai, Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen, Journalist Ha Dinh Nguyen, cultural speaker Ho Nhut Quang and guests: Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Hien (Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Nguyen Tat Thanh University), Mr. Nguyen Dong Hoa (Deputy General Director of Saigontourist Group), Master Chau Minh Tam (lecturer of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music) and many fans of traditional culture and art.
The seminar shared a lot of information about the history of the formation and birth of the traditional music genre of Southern amateur music, mentioning the contributions of musicians in the historical flow of land reclamation based on the foundation of Hue royal court music and folk music genres, thereby creating a new identity suitable to the thoughts, feelings and aspirations of the people of the Southern land.
Cam ca tan dieu (New Traditional Music) written by Le Van Tieng and Tran Phong Sac in 1926 is a historical book and has played an important role in teaching and developing Southern amateur music.
The book contains 60 amateur songs, including 20 original pieces and 40 other songs, developed to meet the needs of cai luong stage music at that time.
The content of the songs in the book is thematic and didactic, teaching how to become a good person in society, based on historical references in ancient literature and events in the daily life of the people of the South.
The book is printed in parallel with the music and lyrics, making it easy to read for those who pursue the art of amateur music . It can also be seen as a “secret manual” of the amateur music world, providing detailed instructions from how to tune the strings to the rhythm and tempo on the zither, making it easy for learners to absorb.
The book was found by Dr. Nguyen Le Tuyen during his research on Vietnamese culture at libraries and research centers in France.
According to Master - Meritorious Artist Huynh Khai, the book Cam ca tan dieu has become a standard document for all musicians in all three regions of the country, to be able to use as a means of exchange, learning and singing together. Based on the originals of the works, many composers of plays and traditional songs have composed countless works that meet the standards of musical notes and notes. It can be seen as the root to create flowers and fruits, enriching and enriching the later pieces.
For cultural speaker Ho Nhut Quang, Chairman of the Southern Cultural Research and Honor Club, in more than 20 years of working, he has composed more than 150 cai luong chap works, serving tourism activities and sharing at many high schools, universities, and museums... The content of the cai luong chap works praises the spirit of humanity, love for the homeland, love for peace and kindness.
According to Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Hien, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism at Nguyen Tat Thanh University: “Singing cai luong with concise and engaging content will easily reach young people in the new era. I believe that singing cai luong will be an extremely important means to help make the appearance of tourism more attractive.”
