Minister Diana Mondino said that her visit to Vietnam right after taking office shows the importance of the relationship with Vietnam in Argentina's foreign policy.
She affirmed that Vietnam is a typical example of a successful country thanks to strong integration and vibrant foreign trade.
According to the minister, Vietnam's motto of wanting to be friends with all countries in the world has brought Vietnam its current development and Vietnam has a lot of experience to share with Argentina in this matter.
Assessing the visit to Argentina last April by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, which brought many practical benefits to the bilateral relationship, the Minister said that the exchange of high-level delegations plays an important role in promoting trade and investment relations between the private economic sectors of Vietnam and Argentina.
During talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Argentina and Vietnam agreed to promote the early launch of negotiations on a trade agreement between Vietnam and the South American common market bloc Mercosur.
Minister Diana Mondino said that the economies of Vietnam and Argentina are complementary. Argentine goods can be used as raw materials for Vietnam to process export products.
According to the foreign minister, Argentina and Vietnam are working hard to negotiate to meet each other's technical standards, creating favorable conditions for trade between the two countries' goods. Argentina has opened its market to some Vietnamese goods.
In the opposite direction, Vietnam has also granted import licenses for beef, goat and lamb products into the Vietnamese market. Ms. Diana Mondino expressed her hope that the exchange of goods between the two countries will continue to be promoted because Argentina still has a lot of potential for agricultural products.
The Argentine Foreign Minister also highly appreciated the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, education, academic exchange and art. In particular, she hoped that the two countries would continue to support each other in multilateral forums and hoped that Vietnam would support the Argentine candidate for the position of leader of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
Vietnam-Argentina two-way trade turnover in 2023 will reach 3.45 billion USD. Vietnam is currently Argentina's 6th largest trading partner and 5th largest export market in the world, while Argentina is Vietnam's 3rd largest trading partner in Latin America.
Despite being in an economic crisis for many years, Argentina is still maintaining projects to support Vietnam within the framework of South-South cooperation among developing countries. Typical projects include a project to support Vietnam in identifying martyrs' remains, a project to help Vietnamese farmers preserve agricultural products, a project to improve the quality of animal feed, a project to improve the resilience of rice plants, and a number of other projects in veterinary medicine, animal husbandry, and biotechnology.
