Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung emphasized that in recent years, the cooperative relationship between Quang Tri and Lao provinces has continued to have new, positive and effective developments. In addition to signing phased cooperation agreements with the two border provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan, in 2023, Quang Tri province established friendly cooperative relations and signed a Cooperation Plan for the period 2024 - 2026 with Champasak province; signed a Minutes of Talks with a high-ranking delegation of Sekong province to gradually open up friendly cooperation activities with Lao localities; contributing to fostering and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

In order to concretize the contents of the working minutes signed between the senior leaders of Quang Tri province and the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan, Quang Tri province has directed departments and branches to develop a project, organize a workshop on the Lao Bao - Densavan common cross-border economic and trade zone; and direct agencies to implement research and develop the project "Cooperation to implement the Quang Tri - Salavan - Ubon Ratchathani economic corridor".

At the same time, the “village-village” twinning model continues to be maintained and promoted effectively. On the border area between Quang Tri province and the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan, there are 26 pairs of opposite villages that have been twinned. Quang Tri province has organized activities to summarize 15 years of twinning residential clusters on both sides of the border, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, strengthening the solidarity of people on both sides of the border.

Regarding educational cooperation, in the past, Quang Tri province has organized 12 training courses/530 key cadres for the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan to study intermediate political theory at Le Duan Political School. Currently, Le Duan Political School is training the 13th intermediate political theory class for 50 cadres of the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan.

Quang Tri is a model province, leading in implementing the policy of political training for Lao provinces and has received high appreciation from ministries and central branches of Vietnam and Laos. In the period of 2023 - 2027, Quang Tri province supports Savannakhet and Salavan provinces each with 30 scholarships for students studying at colleges in Quang Tri. In addition, Quang Tri province regularly supports these two provinces with funding to build projects in health, education, transportation, etc.

Despite the remarkable results, the cooperation between the two countries still has a lot of potential and advantages that have not been fully exploited. Therefore, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung suggested that the Ambassador and Consul General of Laos support the policy and propose that the Lao Government pay attention to and direct ministries, departments and branches to support and create conditions for Quang Tri province and Savannakhet province to soon complete the project and draft the content of the Agreement on the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic Zone to attract domestic and international businesses and investors; support Quang Tri province and Salavan province to research and develop the project "Cooperation to implement the Quang Tri - Salavan - Ubon Ratchathani economic corridor".

Currently, Quang Tri province is focusing on directing relevant departments, branches and localities to study and remove difficulties to create favorable conditions for enterprises exporting coal through La Lay International Border Gate. In order to increase coal export output from Laos to Vietnam and reduce the load on La Lay International Border Gate, the Ambassador requested that Lao central ministries and branches study upgrading and expanding the route from Kaluem district (Sekong province) to Ta Oi district (Salavan province) to connect with the traffic route through Nong district to Ban Dong, Se Pon district (Savannakhet province) to Lao Bao International Border Gate, Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri province).

The ambassador is requested to discuss with central ministries, branches and the Lao Government to consider reducing administrative procedures to create conditions for Vietnamese businesses to trade goods more quickly and conveniently, as Vietnam is applying to Lao transport vehicles.
