Although Christmas is still a short while away, many manufacturers and businesses have proactively brought the spirit of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) into the market earlier, with abundant goods and attractive promotions and discounts, making the Tet shopping atmosphere even more vibrant.

Many supermarkets report that due to releasing Tet holiday goods earlier than usual, along with diverse promotions, they are seeing a gradual increase in purchasing power. Supermarket chains such as Lotte Mart, Saigon Co.op , Bach Hoa Xanh, Winmart, etc., say they are looking to recruit thousands of seasonal workers to support the Tet season.
The streets are gradually becoming lively, with an abundance of Tet goods.
Observations on December 24th showed that even before the Gregorian New Year, famous fashion streets in Ho Chi Minh City such as Nguyen Trai (District 1), Le Van Sy (District 3), Quang Trung (Go Vap District)... were already bustling with the Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere. Numerous women's fashion stores showcased collections of ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses), red yếm (traditional Vietnamese bodice), and Tet dresses with prices ranging from 300,000 to over 1 million VND. Many stores offered attractive promotions, with some even giving away free accessories like handbags or headbands when purchasing an ao dai. According to Ms. TP, the owner of a store on Tran Quang Dieu Street (District 3), this year's trend leans towards traditional ao dai such as the five-panel ao dai made from natural or silk fabrics, instead of elaborate, form-fitting designs. "More and more young people are wearing ao dai for Tet photos, making traditional attire more popular," Ms. P. said. Meanwhile, many consumers have taken advantage of early shopping opportunities. Mr. Tran Trung (District 10), who works in the restaurant industry, said: "The closer it gets to Tet, the busier things get, so my girlfriend and I decided to start shopping for Tet now to have more time." Besides boosting direct sales, fashion brands are also actively exploiting e-commerce platforms such as TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Lazada. Mr. Ngo Van Hung, representative of the V-sixtyfour brand, said that during the Year of the Snake Tet holiday, the brand intensified its online sales "mega live" events with the participation of many famous KOLs, expecting revenue from the online channel to increase by 80% compared to normal days.
Tet holiday goods fill supermarket shelves, early promotions available.
At supermarkets, Tet gift baskets are already gracing the shelves, along with many red and yellow decorations, bringing the spirit of spring to every shopping space. With the participation of hundreds of brands, shelves filled with items like candies, melon seeds, cashews, beverages... and Tet gift boxes at Lotte Mart Go Vap supermarket are overflowing. A representative from Lotte Mart said they are offering discounts of up to 70% on a range of products, lasting from now until December 31st. In addition, the supermarket is offering further discounts for members and implementing price stabilization programs for pork from now until Tet. "This year, we are proactively launching our Tet product program earlier than usual, including for the Gregorian New Year. We will focus on increasing the supply of goods to the market and increasing promotions in the 40 days before Tet," the representative said. Observations at supermarkets such as Co.opmart, MM Mega Market, and Emart show that a large quantity of Tet (Lunar New Year) goods has been released to the market with many attractive promotional programs. Therefore, shopping demand is gradually becoming more vibrant. Speaking with Tuoi Tre newspaper, Mr. Tran Vo Ngoc, business director of Saigon Co.op, said that with the Tet At Ty program launched in mid-December, most Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, and Co.op Food supermarkets nationwide have intensified the release of Tet goods to the market with diverse and early promotions, resulting in increased purchasing power. "The trend of people shopping for Tet early is becoming increasingly common. In addition, the early and spread-out application of Tet goods programs also helps avoid the situation where consumers rush to shop at the end of the year," Mr. Ngoc assessed. According to many retailers, sales have started to increase compared to the previous month and are expected to rise by about 20-30% in the next 2-3 weeks as many people begin shopping for year-end and Tet holidays. Especially with the market stabilization program implemented by the city, many essential products such as meat, eggs, rice, etc., maintain good prices during Tet.
Food businesses are accelerating.
Many food suppliers report a slight increase in market demand but are maintaining good prices, and some are even implementing promotional policies earlier than in previous years. According to Ms. Pham Thi Huan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ba Huan Company (Ho Chi Minh City), egg sales have increased slightly compared to normal days, but the company is maintaining stable prices and will offer a 10-15% discount closer to Tet (Lunar New Year). A representative from Vinh Thanh Dat Company (Ho Chi Minh City) stated that thanks to abundant supply, in addition to fresh eggs, the company is accelerating the production of processed egg products such as century eggs, ready-to-eat braised duck eggs, and braised free-range chicken eggs... to sell during Tet at stable prices, and is even considering earlier promotions than in previous years. Meanwhile, Vietnam Joint Stock Company has launched processed products such as pork sausage, ham, etc., for sale during Tet at regular prices, including many new product lines such as grilled meat, skewers, grilled pork meatballs, etc. This company is also maintaining a stable output of approximately 16,000 pigs per day and is ready to significantly increase output if demand rises.
