TPO - The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board said that the relocation of technical infrastructure works will be basically completed in 2024 to be ready to hand over the site to the main contractor to construct the tunnel and stations of metro line 2 in 2025.
On the morning of February 17, at Ben Thanh Central Station (District 1), the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (investor) held a ceremony to launch construction in the early year of Giap Thin 2024 for the project to build metro line 2 (metro line 2: Ben Thanh - Tham Luong).
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Anh Huan - Deputy Head of the HCMC Urban Railway Management Board said that the project with a length of more than 11 km (of which the underground section is more than 9 km long; the elevated section is nearly 2 km long) with 10 stations (9 underground stations, 1 elevated station), the HCMC metro project No. 2 passes through the following districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu with a total recovered area of 251,136 m2; the total compensation and support cost is 3,753,610 billion VND. Up to now, the site handover rate has reached 86.69% (508/586 cases).

To prepare a "clean" site for the main contractors to start construction in 2025, on June 22, 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board held a groundbreaking ceremony to relocate the technical infrastructure works of the electrical category.
According to Mr. Huan, by December 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board has completed the selection of contractors for the relocation and reconstruction of water supply, drainage, lighting, signboards, and traffic signals.
“Thus, the relocation of technical infrastructure has met the conditions for simultaneous implementation of construction. I request the contractors to urgently focus on mobilizing workers and construction machinery; at the same time, I request the drainage contractor to take the lead in coordinating with the water and electricity contractors to implement the construction work immediately after today's ceremony to ensure the progress agreed upon by the parties to basically complete the relocation of technical infrastructure works in 2024 to be ready to hand over the site to the main contractor to construct the tunnel and stations in 2025" - Mr. Huan said.

In addition to ensuring construction progress meets the set targets, the Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board also requested contractors to focus on labor safety management and environmental sanitation during construction.
The HCMC Metro Line 2 Project (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) has a total investment of more than VND 47,890 billion using ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and counterpart funds from the budget.
The project is expected to start construction in early 2025.
