On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam, the National Archives Center III (Department of State Records and Archives, Ministry of the Interior) introduces hundreds of archival documents about this important event.
Hundreds of documentary photos from Vietnam, France and Russia are presented, giving today's people a realistic picture of a historical event that happened 70 years ago.
That is the image of President Ho Chi Minh with comrades Truong Chinh, Pham Van Dong, and Vo Nguyen Giap meeting to decide to launch the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954; General Vo Nguyen Giap is observing the situation on the front in 1954;
Images of convoys of food trucks following each other to the front or images of brave fighting of soldiers; soldiers carrying President Ho Chi Minh's portrait on captured tanks;
Or the image of French generals meeting to discuss plans to build a defensive base for the Dien Bien Phu stronghold in 1953 until they waved the white flag to surrender...
Currently, the center is preserving a large volume of records and documents recreating the historical context, the command process, the preparation of the campaign; the developments, results, and significance of the campaign; the process of the military and people of the whole country coordinating with the Dien Bien Phu battlefield.
Information such as public opinion and international friendship about the campaign; campaign logistics; policies of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam towards wounded and sick soldiers and deserters; documents on the optimistic fighting spirit and combat service of our army and people during the campaign... are also kept at National Archives Center III.
