On September 22, Mr. Mai Van Muoi, Director of the Department of Health of Quang Nam province, said that the unit had just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of districts, towns, cities and medical facilities regarding continued coordination in implementing the work of controlling, preventing, and admitting and treating pink eye in the area.
According to Mr. Muoi, currently, the situation of pink eye (acute conjunctivitis) continues to increase rapidly across the country. In Quang Nam alone, from September 1 to 20, the whole province recorded about 41,800 cases.
Of these, 12,800 cases of acute conjunctivitis were examined and treated at medical facilities. From September 18 to now, there have been 1,877 cases of patients examined at medical facilities, of which 300 cases were at Quang Nam Eye Hospital.
Many people come to medical facilities to treat pink eye.
Faced with the outbreak of pink eye, the Department of Health recommends that local authorities continue to focus on directing relevant departments and units to increase surprise inspections of drug retail establishments; promptly detect and handle cases of price increases (especially paying attention to the price of eye drops), establishments advertising unprofessional treatments...
In addition, direct health centers to compile statistics on pink eye in the local community and report weekly to the Department of Health.
The Department of Health also assigned the Provincial Center for Disease Control to strengthen direction and professional guidance in monitoring, investigating, and handling cases and outbreaks of pink eye. Monitor, detect early, and promptly handle outbreaks of pink eye; deploy anti-infection measures in nurseries, schools, agencies, factories, communities, etc.
Doctor Nguyen Minh Thu, Deputy Director of Quang Nam Eye Hospital, said common symptoms include conjunctival congestion (red eyes), watery eyes, and a lot of eye discharge; children may have symptoms of rhinitis, sore throat, respiratory tract infection, fever, etc.
Dr. Thu recommends that to effectively prevent pink eye, people need to wash their hands with soap and clean water to prevent sources of infection and pathogens. They should not put their hands on their eyes, nose, mouth, or face to avoid bringing pathogens to their eyes.
In addition, it is necessary to clean eyes, nose, and throat regularly with saline solution, at least 3 times/day (morning, noon, and evening). Do not share items with sick people such as towels or eyeglasses. For those who have pink eye, they should wear a medical mask, which is also an effective measure to limit the spread of direct contact... It is necessary to limit contact with sick people and people suspected of having pink eye.
