At the Tet flower stall in Thao Dien night market (Thu Duc city), a pot of Phalaenopsis orchid nearly 4m high, 3.5m in diameter is being sold for 1.868 billion VND and is attracting a lot of attention.
It is known that this Phalaenopsis orchid pot was made in 3 days by 5 workers. With the name of gold-plated prosperity, this work has the meaning of bringing prosperity and abundance in the early days of spring.
This Phalaenopsis orchid work is made from 868 grade 1 orchid branches, imported directly from Da Lat.
The flower pot alone is plated with 24K gold and is worth more than 150 million VND.
Next to the flower pot, this unit also placed a pair of 24K gold-plated honeycomb slippers to show gratitude to the farmers' efforts.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Dao, who created this work, said that she had to come up with the idea and consult with her teacher and colleagues several months in advance. During the time of creating the work, she encountered many difficulties in the early stages because the flower pot was quite tall, and the worker had to build a scaffolding to be able to complete it. Furthermore, to keep the plant fresh longer, the flower branches placed in the pot had to be carefully selected, keeping the base intact.
To preserve the Phalaenopsis orchid pot for a long time, it should be watered once every 3-5 days. Each time, the workers must set up a ladder to water from the top of the pot. According to Ms. Dao, the time to play with this Phalaenopsis orchid work lasts about 2 months.
The orchid pot for sale for nearly 2 billion VND also attracted a lot of attention from people who came to visit and take pictures next to this phalaenopsis orchid work.
"It's never been before that I've seen such a large and expensive orchid pot. If I had the money, I would buy it for Tet," said Mr. Dan.
In recent years, in addition to traditional Tet ornamental plants such as apricot, peach, kumquat... orchids - a flower known as the queen of flowers - are also being chosen by many consumers to display during Tet.
According to a salesperson here, this year's Tet flower market is less bustling than in previous years, with the number of customers coming to buy in the past few days only reaching an average level.
In addition to the Phalaenopsis orchid worth nearly 2 billion VND, the Tet flower booth also displays many orchid pots with diverse designs and colors, attracting the attention of locals and tourists.
