Do Viet Anh (born in 2002, Hanoi) had a proud high school time. For 9 consecutive years, he held the position of class monitor, always being among the top students in the class. Therefore, in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2016-2017 school year, he confidently registered for a prestigious high school in the city.

Viet Anh always believed that he would pass the exam to get into the school he wanted. Ever since he finished the exam, he never thought he would fail, so when he received the result "failed", he felt like the sky was falling down.

Do Viet Anh is currently a third-year student at the University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

"That day, at 8am, I started checking my exam scores and was shocked to learn that I had failed the entrance exam to grade 10 of public schools in Hanoi. The sandwich I was eating in my hand fell to the ground. It is worth mentioning that out of 46 students in the class, 45 passed, but I, the class monitor, failed alone ," Viet Anh recalled.

The days that followed were long slides from pressure from family and friends, causing him to withdraw because he had no one to rely on. His family also could not accept the fact that their son failed the 10th grade exam, Viet Anh's mother thought he was joking. His father became pensive and quiet.

At that time, Viet Anh thought that his 9 years of studying had been in vain. He didn't know how to face his parents. He was disappointed in himself. The next day, his mother took him to a private school to register.

During the first days of studying at the "second option" school, Viet Anh kept to himself and did not interact with anyone. After class, he hurried home. Things gradually changed when Viet Anh was assigned the responsibility of class monitor by his homeroom teacher and encouraged to participate in group activities.

" At that time, there were two conflicting thoughts in me. One was: I was a high school failure, being a class monitor would make people listen and respect me. The other thought was: Just do as much as you can, try as hard as you can. But then, with the encouragement of my homeroom teacher, I accepted " - Viet Anh said.

Gradually, the male student became more open, leaving behind the fear of failing the 10th grade exam. Viet Anh felt lucky because he always had family, friends and teachers by his side, giving him the motivation to overcome the early crisis in his life.

Until now, when looking back at that time, Viet Anh thinks that it was a memorable milestone, both a shock and a painful fall, but also gave him the opportunity to look back, mature and break through himself. Putting the past behind him, he used it as motivation to strive for further goals in the future.

Currently, Do Viet Anh is a third-year student majoring in Business Law at the University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Hanoi boy believes that getting up after failure and passing the entrance exam to a prestigious university is a success that makes him proud.

During the time of studying for the university entrance exam, Viet Anh still reminded himself of the lesson of his past failure. " That story gave me more determination and strength to achieve my goal. I thought I had already overcome failure once so there was nothing to be afraid of, just do my best. And I achieved my goal of entering the university of my choice ," he confided.

In college, Viet Anh focused his time on studying and actively participated in common activities. He was a collaborator of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Student Association of the school, achieved the title of excellent student in the first and second years, and in the third year he won the Second Prize in the School-level Scientific Research Student Competition.

Sharing his study method, Viet Anh said that he has a notebook to write down the main ideas when the lecturer lectures, then he strings them together and writes them into a complete document to remember them longer.

Before each exam, I always review carefully about 1 month in advance. When I have more time to review, I will understand the knowledge more deeply and for a longer time. That is also the way for me to enter the exam with the most confident mindset.

Viet Anh realized that the university environment requires students to be more independent and self-disciplined. " I set goals for myself to cultivate many skills and accumulate knowledge. Especially specialized knowledge in the field of Law. If I have a good foundation from university, it will help me a lot when entering the labor market later ," Viet Anh confided.
