The 2,400 billion VND seaport overpass in Hue will be completed before Lunar New Year 2025

The coastal road project through Thua Thien Hue province and Thuan An estuary overpass has a total investment of VND2,400 billion.

The project is more than 7.7km long (including 2.36km of the bridge length across Thuan An gate), and was started in March 2022. The starting point of the route is at the intersection of National Highway 49B - Tam Giang Bridge, Hai Duong commune and the end point is at the intersection of National Highway 49A-49B, Thuan An ward, Hue city.

According to the investor representative, after nearly 3 years, the contractors have completed about 75% of the construction volume of the Thuan An seaport overpass. The bridge spans were built according to the plan of launching and installing beams and casting concrete blocks of beams consecutively from two sides (cantilever).

It is expected that the Thuan An seaport overpass will be completed before the Lunar New Year of At Ty and completed in March 2025.

The highlight of the Thuan An seaport overpass is the middle spans constructed using a cantilever design, fixed with 34 cables at each end.

The spans are located on two main pillars, T26 and T27, with a height of more than 40m from sea level to the bridge deck, and more than 70m to the top of the tower, ensuring large ships and boats can enter Thuan An port.

Mr. Le Trung Hieu, Deputy Site Commander of Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company, said that the unit is concentrating vehicles and workers to complete the concrete blocks of the bridge span on pier T27.

At pillar T26, Tan Nam Construction Joint Stock Company also accelerated construction progress and bridge closure according to the plan.

According to Mr. Le Trung Hieu, each bridge span on 2 pillars has a total of 25 cast blocks (coded K1-K25, length of K is 4m). If the weather conditions are favorable, the contractors will complete a cast block within 10 days.

"We have now poured concrete up to K20 and expect to complete K25 and close the bridge on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of At Ty," Mr. Hieu shared.

The two towers, which are over 30m high (from the bridge deck), are supported by a total of 136 large cables. Each large cable is a combination of the strength of 29 different small cores, manufactured from special materials.

The team of workers at the Thuan An seaport overpass construction site did not mind the rain or wind, working day and night to complete the key project.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Deputy Director of the Project Management Board for Traffic Construction Investment of Thua Thien Hue province (investor), said that up to now, the total capital allocated for the project has reached more than 2,200 billion VND, the disbursed capital has reached nearly 1,700 billion VND.

According to Mr. Cuong, to increase aesthetics as well as ensure security and safety during operation, the investor has proposed that the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province add items such as a camera surveillance system, artistic lighting above and below the bridge, a longitudinal drainage system, and investment in completing sidewalks and lighting systems on section 1B (Thuan An ward side).

While the seaport overpass project is nearing completion, the roads at both ends of the bridge are still relatively messy.

According to the investor representative, the main reason for the delay in project progress is due to problems with compensation and site clearance, especially in Thuan An ward with 150 households whose land appraisal has not yet been approved, and they must wait for specific land prices from the Hue City People's Committee.

Relevant units are making efforts to hand over clean sites to contractors, ensuring the completion of the entire project as planned.

In early January 2025, the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government took effect. Accordingly, Thuan An Ward and Hai Duong Commune will merge into Thuan An Ward of Thuan Hoa District.

The completion of the Thuan An seaport overpass will facilitate the travel and circulation of goods for local people, creating momentum for Hue city to develop the economy of the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon area and coastal areas.
