The situation of labor cuts shows signs of cooling down as the number of people registering for unemployment benefits has decreased by nearly 25% compared to mid-year, according to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City labor sector.
The information was given by Mr. Le Van Thinh, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, at the conference of the city's Party Executive Committee on the afternoon of December 2. Accordingly, in the past 11 months, the whole city had more than 156,300 unemployed people registered to receive benefits, an increase of 9.7% over the same period. However, compared to the months of the year, the number of unemployed people showed signs of decreasing.
"The situation of labor cuts in the area has shown signs of cooling down in the last months of the year," said Mr. Thinh. Specifically, in November, more than 13,300 people registered to receive unemployment benefits, down nearly 25% compared to the peak. Accordingly, in June, the city recorded a sharp increase in the number of unemployed people with more than 17,700 people. Similarly, in September and October, these numbers were more than 12,100 and 14,200 people, respectively.

Analyzing the cause, the city's labor leaders said that some manufacturing enterprises have orders to serve the year-end holidays, so the market has more jobs. Some companies also have new recruitment needs. Including seasonal jobs, at the end of the year, businesses in the area have a need to recruit 20,000 - 25,000 workers.
According to Mr. Thinh, there are also some reasons why the rate of people registering for unemployment benefits has decreased, such as the end of the year, when employees rarely "jump ship" due to salary and Tet bonuses. Information about adjustments to the Social Insurance Law discussed publicly by the National Assembly also helps workers feel secure and less disturbed.
Mr. Le Van Thinh said that in December and early next year, the labor sector will focus on monitoring and supervising the payment of salaries, Tet bonuses and pre-Tet support for workers. For the group of unemployed and facing difficulties, the unit will coordinate with the trade union to take care of about 139,000 cases, with a total budget of 71 billion VND. In addition, the City Fatherland Front Committee and districts have separate plans to take care of workers and policy beneficiaries during Tet.

Also at the meeting of the city's Party Executive Committee today, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that the city's growth forecast for the whole year is 5.8% (the target is 7.5%). The reason is that the world situation is complicated, the global economy is facing many difficulties, and unfavorable factors have appeared and exceeded the initial forecast.
Regarding the tasks for 2024, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that in addition to specific socio-economic targets, the city will focus on promoting digital transformation and effectively implementing Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on piloting specific mechanisms and policies for the city's development.
