Beware of scams calling for support for people affected by storm No. 3

On September 16, the Department of Information and Communications issued Document No. 1256/STTTT-TTBCXB on vigilance against scams on social networks calling for support for people affected by storm No. 3.

In recent days, promoting the tradition of solidarity, mutual love and support, "the rich help the poor", many organizations and individuals inside and outside the province have spread many beautiful actions to help and support people affected by storm No. 3.

However, currently, some unverified information is appearing on social networks regarding calling for support and transferring money to personal accounts to support Lao Cai people affected by storm No. 3.

To be vigilant against forms of charity appeals on social networks, the Department of Information and Communications requests agencies, units, and localities to propagate and thoroughly educate cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers, and people in the province to continue to propagate and raise awareness of all classes of people in receiving and sharing information, especially on social networking sites; do not post false news, exaggerate, or distort the truth; when discovering false information, report it to authorities at all levels for timely handling, avoiding causing panic, anxiety, and damage to people, the community, and society; promptly detect and report to competent authorities to strictly handle those who take advantage of the complicated and difficult situation after the storm and flood to gain personal gain, causing disorder and insecurity in society.

Along with that, carry out propaganda and dissemination to cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers and people to raise the spirit of vigilance, do not transfer donations and support to accounts of unknown origin, without clear identity; absolutely do not transfer money to other people's accounts when you cannot specifically identify who they are; do not transfer money or provide personal information to strangers over the phone. Only make donations through official accounts of state agencies or reputable and transparent organizations/individuals. Continue to widely disseminate information about the Call for support for people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province on social networking platforms so that organizations, individuals, and benefactors inside and outside the province clearly understand the information about: Address for receiving donations, receiving account number, contact point, and time of receiving.

When receiving information on social networks calling for sponsorship or selling goods to support flood prevention, it is necessary to carefully check the information about the organization/individual calling, verify the authenticity of the information, about the accounts calling for donations, avoid transferring charity money to the wrong place; only follow from official sources of information to update accurate news about official organizations, reliable addresses receiving money and goods to support people to limit the risks of online fraud or becoming victims of bad guys on the internet. Promote the sharing of warning information widely so that people can raise their vigilance. When detecting signs of fraud on Fanpages or personal accounts, it is necessary to immediately report to the authorities for timely handling.

Specialized agencies and localities need to continue to promote and guide skills in protecting personal information in cyberspace. Provide guidance on how to recognize and prevent online fraud. Focus on the following contents: Forms of online fraud; recognizing and preventing online fraud; some tools for people to use in preventing online fraud. Report fraud cases and send warnings to the Vietnam Information Security Warning Page at: https://canhbao.khonggianmang.vn/home/

In addition, the Department of Information and Communications requests that the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities proactively provide information on people's needs for support; locations and contact points for receiving support; information on local support receiving account numbers to facilitate organizations/individuals to conduct voluntary activities and meet the needs of the people.
