Informing the press on November 8, the Ministry of Finance stated four main reasons why taxpayers do not know they owe taxes or do not receive notices from tax authorities: Taxpayers do not know how and where to look up tax information; do not look up regularly; do not promptly update tax authorities with changes in tax registration information such as tax notice receiving address, email, phone number; do not operate at the registered business address.

To avoid the situation of arriving at the airport or border gate and only finding out that they owe taxes and are temporarily suspended from leaving the country, taxpayers need to regularly look up their tax obligations to have a plan to pay taxes on time; proactively update information with the tax authority immediately if there is a change in the address to receive notifications, email address, phone number, etc.

In case you have completed your tax payment obligations, you need to immediately contact the tax authority that issued the notice of temporary suspension of exit for support and cancellation of temporary suspension of exit.

There are currently many channels for tax authorities to send debt notices, tax enforcement decisions, and temporary exit suspension notices to taxpayers such as: eTax Mobile application; electronic transaction account (thuedientu.gdt.gov.vn); taxpayer email registered with the tax authority; correspondence via the tax notice receiving address registered with the tax authority; electronic information pages of the tax department and the General Department of Taxation.

Regarding the consideration of adding regulations on a reasonable minimum tax debt threshold to apply the measure of temporary suspension of exit, the Ministry of Finance said that the General Department of Taxation will base on the practical situation and refer to international experience to research and report to competent authorities to consider regulating an appropriate debt threshold, both ensuring the effectiveness of tax debt collection and creating conditions for enterprises to continue production and business activities.
