At 9:00 a.m. this morning, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) - the flagship of the US Navy's Carrier Strike Group 5 (CSG 5) - arrived in Da Nang.
This is the third time a US aircraft carrier has visited Vietnam since 1975. Previously, in 2018 and 2020, two aircraft carriers, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), also visited Da Nang.

The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan arrived with two escort ships, the guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) and the USS Robert Smalls (CG 62).

The Vietnamese and American flags were flown solemnly on all three American ships as they entered the bay.
The admiral, sailors and engineers on board waved as they docked.
Immediately afterwards, the sailors disembarked and interacted with leaders of Da Nang City, Vietnamese navy and border guards.
"The more than 5,000 sailors aboard USS Ronald Reagan are eager to visit Da Nang and experience Vietnamese culture. The entire crew and I appreciate this opportunity and the hospitality of the Vietnamese people," said Captain Daryle Cardone, Commanding Officer of the USS Ronald Reagan.
