Container trucks have been banned from many inner-city routes for nearly a year to serve the construction of the Tan Son Nhat airport gateway road project.
The above plan was proposed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to ensure safety for the construction of the Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan intersection tunnel, part of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project in Tan Binh District. Container trucks are banned from entering 8 routes day and night, from June 18 to April 13, instead of only 6am - 10pm every day as prescribed.

Specifically, vehicles are banned from both directions of Bach Dang - Phan Dang Luu - Hoang Van Thu street, extending from Xo Viet Nghe Tinh intersection (Binh Thanh district) to Bay Hien intersection (Tan Binh district). Connecting to this axis, Phan Thuc Duyen street (Tan Binh) also prohibits containers in the direction from Phan Dinh Giot street to Tran Quoc Hoan street.
On Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Van Troi street (from Vo Thi Sau intersection to Hoang Van Thu street), all container trucks are also banned from running in both directions.
In addition to the above routes, the Department of Transport prohibits container trucks on Dien Bien Phu Street (Binh Thanh), in the direction from Hang Xanh intersection to Dinh Tien Hoang. For the Vo Thi Sau route, the vehicle ban applies from Dinh Tien Hoang Street to Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street.
There are two alternative routes for vehicles to run, including: Route 1 (from East to West and vice versa): Hanoi Highway - Mai Chi Tho Street - Dong Van Cong - Vo Chi Cong - Phu My Bridge - Zone A Intersection - Nguyen Van Linh Street - National Highway 1 and vice versa.
Route 2 (from North to South): National Highway 22 - National Highway 1 - Hanoi Highway - Mai Chi Tho Street - Dong Van Cong - Vo Chi Cong - Phu My Bridge - Zone A Intersection - Nguyen Van Linh Street - Nguyen Huu Tho and vice versa.

In addition to the above plan, from June 18 to May 31, 2024, traffic on Phan Thuc Duyen Street (from Tran Quoc Hoan to alley 4 Phan Thuc Duyen) will be adjusted to a one-way street. Vehicles can follow the alternative route: Phan Thuc Duyen - Thang Long - Hau Giang - Truong Son - Tran Quoc Hoan.
The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project, over 4 km long, 25-48 m wide, 6 lanes, started construction last December with a total investment of over VND4,800 billion. The project is expected to be completed in August 2024, helping to synchronously connect T3 terminal and reduce congestion at Tan Son Nhat gateway.
