Provincial leaders inspected the progress of harvesting summer-autumn rice and planting warm-weather winter crops in An Chau commune (Dong Hung).
This year, Dong Hung district strives to plant more than 5,000 hectares of winter crops, of which the area of warm-loving crops is about 2,700 hectares, cold-loving crops is about 2,300 hectares, mainly melons and squash. Up to now, more than 2,500 hectares of early-season rice are being harvested, creating land for growing warm-loving winter crops. Farmers in the district have planted about 700 hectares of winter crops, concentrated in An Chau, Dong Xa, and Lo Giang communes.
For Quynh Phu district, nearly 11,000 hectares of winter-spring rice have flowered, and farmers are also preparing to harvest over 2,000 hectares of early-season rice at the end of September to create land for winter crops. This year, the district strives to plant 6,600 hectares of winter crops, of which about 2,000 hectares are warm-season crops.
Reporting at the inspection, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the whole province currently has about 69,000 hectares of blooming winter-spring rice, with about 6,000 hectares of blooming rice after September 20, concentrated in the districts of Tien Hai, Kien Xuong and Thai Binh city. In general, the blooming rice fields are growing and developing well, safe from pests and diseases.

Directing at the inspection session, comrade Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee, requested localities to speed up the harvest of ripe rice with the motto "green house is better than ripe field" to create land for growing warm-loving winter crops to ensure the area and plan as set out.
For newly-ripened and unripened rice areas, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested districts and cities to continue to direct specialized agencies and localities to closely monitor the fields; promptly prevent and control late-season pests and diseases such as two-spotted stem borers, small leaf rollers, rice blast disease, etc. according to the instructions of specialized agencies. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed units to closely monitor the situation, delimit areas that need prevention and control to organize and guide farmers on timely prevention and control measures; ensure good rice growth and high productivity. Based on the structure, season, and goals of winter crop production, the agricultural sector advised the Provincial People's Committee to organize a ceremony to launch the winter crop planting movement, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the localities.
In addition to the province's support policy, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the agricultural sector and localities to study and issue mechanisms to support farmers in growing and developing winter crops, helping to increase people's income.
