After 5 days of exciting meetings, on the afternoon of October 27, the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU 147) held in the capital Luanda (Angola) ended.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh, head of the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation attending the 147th IPU, affirmed that the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly was a very successful conference with the participation of 130 member countries. Among the heads of the delegation, 36 were National Assembly Chairmen and 22 were National Assembly Vice Chairmen.
There were 166 speeches at the General Assembly session. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, also spoke at the General Assembly plenary session.
According to the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, this General Assembly with the theme "Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions" attracted the attention of all more than 1,500 delegates from member countries, associate members and international organizations.
The Vice President of the National Assembly emphasized that the special thing at this General Assembly was the election of the IPU President for the next 3-year term. This is the first time that there are 4 candidates who are all female and all come from Africa. Tanzanian National Assembly President Tulia Ackson was elected with a very high number of votes.
According to the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, the Vietnamese delegation with four National Assembly deputies actively participated in all activities of the conference. Vietnamese deputies attended the professional sessions of the IPU Women Parliamentarians Forum and the Global Young Parliamentarians Forum, along with four councils including the Council on Sustainable Development, the Council on International Peace and Security, the Council on Human Rights and Democracy, and the Council on United Nations Affairs.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Dinh said that at these forums and councils, the Vietnamese delegation spoke and was arranged to speak in important positions. The delegates attending the conference highly appreciated the opinions and proposals of the Vietnamese delegation.
During the conference, the Vietnamese delegation also took the opportunity to meet and have bilateral contacts with the parliamentary delegations of Tanzania, Malta, Japan, and to meet and exchange with delegations from Australia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc. The members of the delegation also had contacts and meetings, demonstrating friendship and cordiality.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that international delegations also highly appreciated Vietnam's position in the current international arena, especially Vietnam's recent successful co-chairing and organization of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi with the IPU.
