(CLO) According to journalist Le Quoc Minh: “Applying technology is one part, so we have to do something different, which is creativity. Besides using high technology, we have to innovate a lot to make a difference. If we only do daily news, using AI in this stage, that stage..., the viewers will all leave.”
On March 20, within the framework of the 42nd National Television Festival held in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, the workshop "Skills of television journalists in the digital environment" took place and brought comments from experts, opening up many new perspectives for television in the new era.
Innovation is the key
Sharing at the workshop, journalist Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said: Technology is developing strongly, the use of AI for journalism and television is inevitable, the only thing is whether we know how to use and take advantage of it or not!.

Sharing about the current application of AI in many fields, journalist Le Quoc Minh said: "Currently, journalists apply AI technology to journalism activities but still cannot compare to individuals and organizations that are using artificial intelligence technology to create fake news out there. For example, using deepfake technology, many individuals only need 3 minutes to create a voice that imitates a human. There is even technology to edit voices and edit images with text."
Applying technology is one part, so we have to do something different, which is creativity. Besides using high technology, we have to innovate a lot to make a difference. If we only do daily news, using AI, then the viewers will leave. Because out there, each individual, each organization has a lot of technology in their hands to create many interesting products. We still see many individuals using technology, social networks, although the devices are very ordinary, but they create very attractive media products.
It is important for every press agency to innovate, in terms of technology, television stations always have an advantage over press agencies. But in terms of innovation, television will be more difficult to some extent. Newspapers use interactive tools with readers and viewers to personalize users very easily, but with television, how to use both the broadcast television platform and digital images to interact with the audience. I think it is also important to innovate not only in news but also in general television activities.
Journalist Le Quoc Minh gave an example: Like the time we promoted the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, if we wrote propaganda articles like that every year, it would not necessarily bring good communication results. We came up with the idea of creating a supplement with the Dien Bien Phu Campaign panorama and many other products for users to easily interact with. Or the project "Each person, a piece of the puzzle" is the highlight in the entire ecosystem of information and propaganda for the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital of Nhan Dan Newspaper...

Journalist Le Quoc Minh emphasized: “Innovation is the key, each press agency must create unique products, with special features, can combine high-end technology, can use normal technology to attract users. I hope that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), press and television agencies will create milestones in technological innovation, boldly invest in digital transformation and more importantly, continuously innovate to maintain their role and position.”
Redefining the way television is produced and distributed
Sharing the same opinion with journalist Le Quoc Minh, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - General Director of VTV said that journalists have to go to digital platforms to find tomorrow's television audience and in that process, we have gradually redefined what television is.

"It's no longer linear television, it's no longer a story where the audience has to watch the program, there's no longer the concept of having to watch on television to get fast and accurate information. We are facing a lot of competition. There is a popularization and democratization of technological equipment, allowing people to express and publish products on the internet," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam shared.
“Digital technology helps us do a lot of things, simplify, save costs, reach our audience now and in the future, and give us the tools to evaluate the real results of our work,” added Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam.
Journalist Pham Anh Chien - Deputy Director of the Center for Digital Content Production and Development, Vietnam Television Station said that in the digital era, where technology is constantly reshaping the way information is produced, distributed and received, digital transformation is no longer an option but has become an inevitable requirement for not only Vietnam Television Station but also the television industry to adapt and develop.
"Digital transformation is a long journey, but with the determination of the leadership, the efforts of the team and mutual learning, VTV will continue to lead. This workshop is an opportunity for us to update our knowledge, share experiences and move towards a modern television journalism. I believe that through the exchanges, we will find practical solutions to improve the quality of work in the digital environment," said journalist Pham Anh Chien.
The workshop "Skills of TV journalists in the digital environment" provided a lot of useful information, helping journalists better understand the changes in the industry and better prepare for the future. Grasping technology trends, practicing multi-platform working skills and maintaining professional ethics are important factors that help TV journalists not only survive but also thrive in the digital age.
